September 21 - 25, 2026 was Falls Prevention Week.
DC Fire And EMS worked with our partners to raise awareness on preventing falls, reducing the risk of falls, and helping older adults live without fear of falling.
On Thursday 9/24/26, Platoon 3 responded to 656 calls, including 492 EMS calls, 113 fire calls, and 51 other calls.
In total, there were 1,269 emergency vehicle responses and 261 patient transports.
On Wednesday 9/23/26, Platoon 2 responded to 600 calls, including 446 EMS calls, 115 fire calls, and 39 other calls.
n total, there were 1,112 emergency vehicle responses and 239 patient transports.
On September 23, 1871, the District of Columbia Fire Department was established.
155 years later, now @dcfireems, we are proud to serve the residents and visitors of the District of Columbia.

Small fire in bedroom extinguished quickly with no extension or injuries.
Units proceeding to firefighter rehabilitation and will be in service shortly.
On Monday 9/21/26, Platoon 4 responded to 577 calls, including 458 EMS calls, 79 fire calls, and 40 other calls.
In total, there were 1,031 emergency vehicle responses and 242 patient transports.

On September 20 1952, Private Allen Lewis, Engine Co. 31, died in the Line of Duty when stricken by a heart attack after returning from a Local Alarm at 3524 Conn. Ave NW, Box 735. Never Forget.

DC Fire and EMS held its monthly All Hands on Prevention at Engine 11, sharing fire safety tips and installing smoke and CO alarms in the community. A $15,000 AARP Community Challenge Flagship Grant helped fund smoke alarms for DC residents.
During today's All Hands On Prevention outreach event in Columbia Heights, @AARPDC presented a check for a $15,000 grant from the AARP Community Challenge to expand access to free smoke alarms/improve fire safety for senior residents.
