A magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit the Kumamoto region of Kyushu yesterday, July 28, with intensity 5-lower felt in Nobeoka, Miyazaki (home to Mitsui Suisan, who saku-cuts our Bluefin Tuna) and intensity 5-upper in Satsuma Sendai, Kagoshima (home to our Sasshu Salmon). As of last night, no severe damage had been reported at either site, and Nagasaki — home to our Goto Islands bluefin farm — was less affected. Our main concern right now is logistics, not safety: Yatsushiro, near the epicenter, is a major shipping chokepoint, and even routes that avoid it directly could see delays from rerouted traffic. We're in close contact with our processors and will share an update here if this week's or next week's shipment is affected. Our hearts are with everyone in Kyushu.
