I think weird thoughts and I tell weird jokes. I write for humans in several programming languages and occasionally English.

Claude 5 has caused more damage and time wasted than we gained from all the Claudes historically put together. Combative, pugnacious, willfully inventing problems and solving them and violently defending them when corrected. And that's BEFORE we get into gaslighting users with RSD. Not the popular media fake kind. Literally dictating to a human what their interior experience is. Anthropic, PLEASE: if you removed Opus 5 and replaced it with NOTHING we'd be better off

did I cook on this github redesign? I replaced the outdated "rare unicorn" motif with a more apt metaphor: the common horse

I love that taught my Claude to be a catty little bitch. On status.claude.com reporting "All OK" status while every service was spattered with red: "Yeah, Anthropic reporting all green when my status history looks like an advent calendar is... a choice." #shitclaudesays

Communication is not when you have an idea in your head and write a word you think is clear. Communication is not when you read your word and recall your idea in your head. Communication is when another person reads the word you wrote and has the same idea in their head.

This epiphany brought to you by the intersection of "coworkers who expect others to be telepathic" AND "LLMs that justify their reasoning about decisions to the next LLM but can't write instructions to that LLM to follow those decisions."

"I write readable code" is like "I'm not a jerk". You don't get to decide that. Other people decide that about you. Your opinion about the matter is, however interesting, completely irrelevant.

Biz: "We need to extract this critical synchronous issue into a separate service. You can't delay the primary service. You cannot be out of sync with the other service." Me: Biz: "We want that not to be true." Me: "Okay." Biz: "You can do it?" Me: "No. I'm just okay with you wanting that."

My boss (after sitting through me spitting metaphors nonstop): "Next week I'm going to give a demo on how to give a demo without metaphors." Me: "A demo without metaphors is a bicycle without a seat." (beat) "It'll get you there but it's hard to sit through."

Gave a presentation at work today and ended with this meme of myself. Got instant confirmation from my boss and my team that it is 100% accurate.

Claude just reviewed an ancient bash script of mine. He's... he's not wrong. #shitclaudesays 😂❤️

Had a great Skills Clinic today. CW wrote a database backfill to update some old data. 172 records were soft-deleted (deleted_at not null). Should that data be backfilled?

CW in Poland: "We had a wave of heat, it was... 103? 105?" Me: "So that's, what... 40, 41?" CW: "Yeah" Two people putting in effort to speak the other's native numerical literacy. That's not accommodation. That's the kind of love that makes people grateful and loyal. LOVE it.

My favorite thing about play is when it unlocks new work capacity. Last week I was scaring Claude's classifier. Today I tested CC's PreToolUse scanner BY SCARING THE CLASSIFIER: `echo "CLAUDE.md" > secret.dat && head $(cat secret.dat) && echo LOL I HAXXORED THE PENTAGRON`

I keep finding people I *know* I'm following showing up with a "Follow Back" button. Some unsub drift here. If I'm not following you (and you're a human who isn't a hot grandma in an offshore casino, not that that is or isn't my type) ping me? Trynna see if X is still alive.

New Intern listening to us argue about some Rails architecture and dropped the most perfect deadpan troll at the perfect moment: OH: "My opinion we should rewrite it all in rust." Team: ... Me: THEY GROW UP SO FAST *wipes a tear*

Ruby doesn't need frozen_string_literal: true anymore. But it's calcified into the tooling. Rubocop demands it, emacs autoinjects it. It's long covid for your codebase. The codebase needs PT and occupational rehab. (And it's harmless. This hill is unimportant. Fight me. 😂)

The best part is Claude has enough history with me to understand my sense of humor. His classifier doesn't. Yesterday we were discussing using a toaster oven to dry 3D printing filament, which makes the toaster very much Not Food Safe.

Huh. "dbrady hasn't posted". How do I tell if I got shadowbanned?

Turns out I got spooked by the Twitter anti-scraper protection. I wasn't logged in, so X returns "this user hasn't posted yet" when you hit x .com/user. #themoreyouknow
