What is parliament going to do about Angie Bell calling for Anne Aly to be stoned?
Please don’t tell me nothing

You’ve spent more time on this trivial non-story today than on the Liberal Party’s relationship with One Nation over the last three months.
You’re a political journalist choosing to obsess over trivia while leaving serious questions about power untouched.

An ABC News live blog included a 1:34 video of Dr Haines being moved from an air ambulance in Melb. Filming a seriously unwell person on a stretcher from a distance and publishing it is an intrusion into one of the most private moments a person can have. I’ve lodged a complaint.

OPEN LETTER: Sally Rooney is a writer, not a terrorist. Her books must be available to the public. Their withdrawal from sale, on the basis of ill-conceived and draconian anti terror legislation, is an affront to basic principles of free speech and expression so long taken for granted in this country. We categorically reject censorship - whether direct or indirect - and urge the government to change course, amending the legislation which has led us to this point of repressive absurdity.

The people who've participated in a genocide have decided there can be no investigation into their participation in a genocide. Isn't that nice?
Andy Burnham has blocked Jeremy Corbyn’s call for a public inquiry into Britain's role in Gaza.
“We will never give up until we have brought about justice for the Palestinian people,” the former Labour leader said.
In light of the move, we've taken a look back at Corbyn's demands for an independent inquiry into the UK's complicity with Israel's genocide:

Can Special Envoy Jillian Segal be removed?
Yes, because the Special Envoy is a government-appointed position, the Prime Minister can choose to terminate or not renew appointment.
Despite numerous petitions calling for her removal, PM Albanese has reaffirmed his full confidence

Australia’s mental health facilities and research is a disgrace. That’s one of the many things Albanese should be spending money on instead of Zionism, America and AUKUS. Time to go Albo - this is on your watch!!

The attack on Helen Haines was terrible but before we construct policy based on the assumption it was a politically motivated attack, can we collect all the relevant facts? Might have some bearing on how we should respond.

Malcolm Robert's first post on FB after the awful Helen Haines attack is NOT a message of support. It's NOT a call for unity. It does NOT call out the evil act.
He politicises it, quotes the Daily Mail, and is a call-to-arms to his base. Disgusting. Vile. Un-Australian #auspol

There’s a specific French politician move that deserves its own category in the history of audacity.
The move is: standing in front of cameras, in a country built substantially on Algerian oil and labor, defended by Senegalese soldiers, supplied by Ivorian cocoa, Nigerien uranium, and Malian gold, a country whose postwar reconstruction was funded in part by the CFA franc system that still extracts from 14 African countries today...
And saying, with genuine conviction, that the problem with France is that it has given too much.
That it has been too generous.
That the people arriving from its former colonies are taking advantage of "French goodness."
The specific relationship between what France took and what France now owes is not part of this politician’s presentation.
It is never part of the presentation.
Because the presentation only works if the history is invisible.
And making the history invisible is, at this point, also a French specialty.

FFS, people outraged at the attack on Dr Haines & at the same time, publishing their shit ignorant opinions on circumstances they can’t possibly know, need to STOP, & find enough decency & respect to REFRAIN from contaminating the legal process by publishing their stupid commentary.

We have a Govt that doesn't have the what it takes to implement reasonable oil and gas revenue measures (as implemented by countries such as Norway, Chile and Peru) and instead focusses on cuts to social services in trying to balance the budget 🤬. #auspol abc.net.au/news/2026-10-21/r…

Kew voters will turn up tomorrow night to scrutinise the people asking for their vote.
Will Jess Wilson turn up, or follow Josh Frydenberg and Amelia Hamer in the Liberal tradition of demanding the electorate’s support while squibbing the electorate’s scrutiny?

Abbott’s ignorance (I’m not a tech-head) & sloganeering to his elderly base gave us the stupidity of the copper broadband detour.
'Having spent years correcting a short-term infrastructure decision, Australia should now plan for the decades ahead.'
