The police procedural drama I am very much here for.
Replying to @BertDalziel
I want to see 2 cops thrown together by circumstances, initially they dislike each other but following their character arc they continue to dislike each other and finally end the series still thinking each other is a twat.

"Sloppily hamfisting their sociopolitics into popular IPs" 🎯
People who say "get politics out of entertainment" are misguided. They'll be the first to quote George Orwell, who wrote unabashedly about his political agenda, without a hint of irony. But people pretending complaints about politics in entertainment are about just making a statement or exploring political issues are being disingenuous. The complaints exist and are valid because for 10 years every cherished IP has been hijacked and destroyed by people whose social politics form the basis of creative choices that run counter to established lore and to good design. Some examples include - The softening of male characters (see Sony's "Wolverine") - The hardening of female characters (see the most recent "Halo"). - The arbitrary "Queering" of the narrative (see "The Last of Us Part II") - The desexualizing of sexy female characters ("Mortal Kombat" is my favorite: the women's breast sizes were deemed offensive, but not the graphic dismemberments and disembowlments the series is known for) These are creative choices made for the sake of social engineering, not compelling storytelling or innovative game design. They are choices made to please the developers and writers, NOT the majority actually buying and playing the games. The brilliance—and cowardice—of these choices is that ANY criticism of them can quickly be dismissed as "hate" from "toxic fans" who are "intimidated" by "diversity" in videogames. This is a ridiculous charge to anyone familiar with the hobby: For nearly 50 years, games have featured protagonists ranging from men and women to animals and aliens to robots and monsters and beyond and not a single person cared, nor bothered to check the demographics of who was developing the games. A deeper complaint is that the people sloppily hamfisting their sociopolitics into popular IPs is that they very openly discriminate against people who don't share their political vision. This not only means that great talent is shut out of these companies for ridiculous reasons, it also means the aforementioned bad choices are guaranteed to never be challenged, else it's unemployment and blacklisting for the suspected "Chud." This pattern has played out across multiple entertainment media, and it's contributed to tanking game studios, tanking comic book sales (compared to Manga), and tanking box office revenues. The complaints aren't about "politics in games." They're about how those politics translate into the work, and how the people developing these games use their politics as a weapon against the normal people they're employed to serve.

In Scotland, the bodies of people who died thousands of years ago get more consideration than female nurses who don’t want a bloke staring at them as they undress or getting his giblets out in the ladies changing room at work.

“Your shops that got looted were nice, okay, but we’re starving.” People looked this girl up and her dad is a corporate executive who worked for Shell. What a smug psychopath.

One of the smartest things a young person could do is get a remote civil servant job while starting a business. These jobs are totally made up. There’s no real work to be done. Lots of meetings about the latest nonsensical initiative. Basically log into MS Teams, listen to your boss drone on about the 17 new safety protocols to observe while sitting at your desk. You don’t have to have your camera on or engage - just say that it triggers your anxiety. Literally no chance of getting fired. More people die in the civil service each year than get fired. Meanwhile you can be pre-launch in your startup. Conducting research, getting customers to engage, building your waitlist. All the while you’ll be getting paid and accumulating a pension. There are very few genuine passive income opportunities available but government jobs are a real thing. Be smart kids, get a remote government job. Do the work in 30mins a day. Sit through the pointless meetings. Get paid. Then launch your startup.

A journo with some time should contact every one of the signatories to this execrable bilge and ask them to publicly state their support of Salman Rushdie and the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists to publish what they were attacked for.
If you ever sought out the novels of Sally Rooney in bookshops – when that was still possible – you’d know they sit in the fiction stacks adjacent to the novels of another SR whose books have been withdrawn in dastardly political circumstances. Until last week, “Rooney” and “Rushdie” had little in common beyond being shelfmates; now they have more than just a physical proximity. @tanjil_rashid_: This is censorship by other means newstatesman.com/comment/202…

"Charley says hugging grandma is weird, begorrah."
The latest ad from the Irish Government to the Irish people, who are the font of all problems in the country and desperately need to be stopped from their bad behaviour. This time, it's hugging your grandkids.

Rushdie was threatened with murder and nearly stabbed to death for the content of his writing. Rooney has had a source of income cut off because of her declared intent to fund terrorists. These things are very, very unlike each other.

A Middle Class Holes goldmine for @OldRoberts953, I should think.
OPEN LETTER: Sally Rooney is a writer, not a terrorist. Her books must be available to the public. Their withdrawal from sale, on the basis of ill-conceived and draconian anti terror legislation, is an affront to basic principles of free speech and expression so long taken for granted in this country. We categorically reject censorship - whether direct or indirect - and urge the government to change course, amending the legislation which has led us to this point of repressive absurdity.

We all know the feeling. You're keen to watch a Dr Who Blu-ray and it takes forever to load, with glossy animations that lose their shine after one viewing. As of today, my government will outlaw "To select audio navigation, press enter now". Change, and not a moment too soon.

My sister gave me an Amazon voucher for my birthday last month, so I put it towards a portable power station.
Just how close did Britain's electricity grid come to collapse on 23 June? Allegations began circulating soon after that date of a cover-up by the National Energy Systems Operator (NESO). While external observers could see that something abnormal was happening, with the frequency of the grid falling below operational limits for several hours, NESO quickly denied that anything was wrong. They claimed that the grid was ‘not at risk’, an assertion which was repeated by energy minister Michael Shanks in the Commons. ✍️ Ross Clark Article | spectator.com/article/how-cl… | @RossjournoClark

A clip from It's Garry Shandling's Show, 1986. His real middle name was Emmanuel, not Aloysius - so, was he or his co-writer a Tony Hancock fan?

Shandling got his break writing scripts for Sanford and Son, the American Steptoe, so I guess he was familiar with Galton and Simpson to some extent.

When I was 16-20 I worked as a checkout girl at Tesco. We had a female changing room and a male changing room. Were I employed there today, this union would work against me and my fellow female employees to keep men with special feelings out of that changing room. Extraordinary.

One of the best plays I ever saw was Arthur Miller's All My Sons at the National in 2000. James Hazeldine, Julie Walters, Ben Daniels, Catherine McCormack. Now I discover there's a film starring Edward G Robinson and Burt Lancaster. How did I not know that?
