We’re putting less emphasis on production value in some of our YouTube work. In most cases, it’s working. Surprising at first. Now it’s starting to look like a pattern, especially in expert-led content. More room for the person. Less going on around them. newsletter.hookedcreators.co…

AI stealing more jobs...
I found an Etch-A-Sketch emulator online and had Astra take control of knobs and then draw me... lol Quite impressive actually.

I’m joining Sound Ventures to invest in the tech industry I’ve been covering for the last decade. Ten years ago, I set out to have a front-row seat to the biggest stories in tech. I’ve sometimes played a part in them through my reporting. Along the way, I’ve gotten to know many of the most influential founders shaping the future. Now I want to back them. I’ll continue to run Sources independently of my work at Sound. The newsletter is continuing, and I’m investing more in the podcast, which has an amazing roster of guests lined up. I got into covering Silicon Valley because I’m insatiably curious about what technology makes possible. It’s time to follow my curiosity again. sources.news/p/joining-sound…

I guess we're allowed to talk about it now... Astra has absolutely blown my mind. I did get early access to test it out and it's definitely felt like the biggest leap we've seen in a long time! I asked it to make me a humanoid wolf in Blender, it used computer use, took control of Blender, and made the wolf in 8-minutes. I asked it to create a clone of Mega Bonk. It made one of the most visually appealing versions of the game I've gotten so far and, using Ultra mode, it did it in 12-minutes. I asked it to make a website that would impress me and it built a world simulator where I could terraform the earth, change the weather, plant more trees, etc. and it would show how the changes would likely effect the population. It built that in 17-minutes. I don't know if the speed is because less people were using it than other models but I've been genuinely impressed by what it's created. I've done a few other tests... Will share more on my news video that's coming out tomorrow.

Should you pivot your YouTube channel or start a new one? Subscriber count isn’t the deciding factor. The real question is whether your new content still serves the same viewer for the same underlying reason. Here’s how to test it before starting over: newsletter.hookedcreators.co…

Impressive first episode of the Sources Podcast. Excited to be able to support Alex on this journey.
Sam Altman on OpenAI’s next model and the AI backlash I recently sat down with Sam for a two-part conversation. We covered a lot of ground: the need to slow down frontier research, alignment concerns, OpenAI's next big model, Astra, competition with Anthropic, his thoughts on an IPO, reaching AGI, consumer hardware, and a lot more. Strip every fact out of your last video that a viewer could've gotten somewhere else in under a minute. What's left? If the answer is "not much," you didn't make a video. You made a search result with a face on it. hookedcreators.substack.com/…

Everyone says post shorts for reach. Nobody mentions that YouTube decides what kind of channel you are based on what you upload - and then serves your 14-minute video to a shorts audience that swipes past it. The algorithm reads that swipe as failure. Your long-form pays for it. hookedcreators.substack.com/…

Four videos at 30K > one video at 120K. Same total views. Not remotely the same channel. One builds return viewers and teaches YouTube you're a safe bet. The other teaches your sponsors that anything under 120K is a failure. The spike gives you a screenshot. Consistency gives you a business. newsletter.hookedcreators.co…
