I am just back from a week in Europe. The continent has the institutional and hereditary memory of the real costs of fascism and the destruction of authoritarianism. In the United States we will were fortunate to have FDR who successfully put down the first America First movement with all of its insanity.
The Europeans do not understand why so many people could be attracted to Donald Trump who is a Putin wannabe. The truth is we don’t have the memory here on this continent of authoritarianism. The sins of the past escaped us. We have to do our best to explain and put down this danger.
