Earlier this week, we received a much anticipated announcement from the Chancellor on the further support that is going to be available to help small businesses navigate the ongoing challenges of coronavirus. Here are some thoughts.

The new Job Support Scheme does not do enough to incentivise employers to retain their staff. It will only work for businesses who struggle to recruit and are willing to incur a cost to retain key people. – at Winwick, England
Welcome extensions announced yesterday so businesses now have until 30 November 2020 to apply for both the CBILS and the Bounce Back Loan schemes. Both also now have longer payment terms of up to 10 years. – at Winwick, England

Another use of #CBILS - this time to re-finance an existing loan to make significant savings for our client during this difficult time:

We’re soon going to be in a position where the furlough scheme and deferred tax payments are coming to an end, meaning a significant increase in outgoings and still a lot of uncertainty over revenue. A financial forecast is more important than ever. – at Winwick, England
Lots of differing opinions on invoice financing, but the fact it can now be wrapped as a CBILS making it free for 12 months means a lot of businesses should be considering it – at Winwick, England

Some Local Authorities have increased the threshold for qualifying businesses for their Discretionary Grant Fund, including 'Work from Home' businesses or those now with Rateable Values above £51k. If you've previously missed out, make sure to check your local council website.
The VAT automatic deferral scheme has now come to an end and upcoming liabilities must be paid in line with your usual deadlines. If you need time to pay, you’ll need to arrange a payment plan with HMRC.
