NBC and Peacock Scripted Content President Lisa Katz on the ‘Newlyweds’ shakeup with co-creator Gail Lerner, who announced on Friday that she had been fired as showrunner amid production:
“That truly was an instance of creative differences, and we feel like that concept of a romantic comedy in a multi-cam format was very winning. And that cast is phenomenal with Téa [Leoni], Tim [Daly], and Jamie [Lee Curtis]. So, we’re working to find the right person and move forward, and we’re still really, really invested and committed to it...”
‘Newlyweds,’ which filmed the eighth episode of its 13-episode order on Friday, was scheduled to go on hiatus this week as search is underway for a new showrunner. Could that be extended if a new person is not found quickly or they need more time to get up to speed?
“We don’t know yet, but because we’re not premiering till later, we feel like we can stay on schedule,” Katz said. ‘Newlyweds’ debuts Oct. 23

What a freaking sequence. We learn so much about the character here. Plus the radio cuts used to communicate the journey.
Also… there’s some legit cgi and large scale prop magic happening here re: the LA landmarks (ie windmill), signage, and even the old school KFC bucket.

In hindsight maybe Pujols helps the offense figure itself out faster but no way he deploys pitching chaos the way Stammen did to great effect.

Re: roster decisions. Did AJ screw over this team in the NLDS?
So many unused players taking slots from other potential contributors.
Stammen is wildly over-indexed on the win or go home approach.
A little more patience and trust would’ve gone a long way.
Maybe he figures it out next season.
Maybe new owners decide to stop letting AJ hire yes men.
Stammen with the mind numbing inability to think past lefty righty matchups is the rookiest of rookie manager bs and it’s gonna cost us the season.
