Anyone need more throughput for the challenge? Happy to provide Japanfold credits. Just send me a DM or comment here.
Japanfold includes RFD4 and many more bio models at super high throughput and low cost. And it's built for agents.
Our last challenge in the Anthropic x Adaptyv Protein Design Competition is about immunotherapy, one of the most important ways of treating cancer.
Immunotherapy helps the immune system attack cancer cells, but distinguishing them from healthy cells isn't always easy. In some cancers, the difference can be as subtle as a single amino acid in a small protein fragment.
That's the case with KRAS, a protein that works like a growth switch in our cells. In many cancers, a mutation leaves the switch stuck on, and the cell keeps multiplying itself and grows into a tumor.
In Challenge 5, you need to design a binder that sticks to the mutated piece of KRAS, but not to the healthy version, so that the immune system can find and attack the cancer cells.
The deadline to submit protein designs for this challenge is November 8. Then, we'll pick the best designs and test them in our lab.

Adaptyv made a very approachable site for designing protein binders with RFD4–Proteina for the ongoing Proteinbase competition (TfR1 and KRAS G12D)
We're bringing back design-a-protein.com!
Fun story about this website. For our previous protein design competition, we launched it with a cheap and fast protein design pipeline, definitely not state of the art, mostly for educational purposes and to get more people interested in the field.
We had pretty low hopes that any of the designs would work, but after synthesizing and testing a few of these vibe-designed proteins in our lab, we found out that one of them actually worked! And it ended up placing #46 in the competition.
So, someone with very limited prior biology knowledge saw our launch post, opened the website, clicked a few buttons, generated a protein never seen in nature, and that protein actually performed its intended biological function when synthesized and tested in our lab.
One year later, we have a much better option available with the newly released RFD4-Proteina model, which remains as cheap and fast to run, but is much closer to state of the art than our previous pipeline. How many binders can the anon vibe designers create this time?
To me, this is one of the clearest examples of how quickly the barriers to drug discovery are falling. And when you combine increasingly accessible and powerful protein design tools with the ability to get your designs synthesized and tested without owning a lab, which is exactly what we're doing at Adaptyv, I think we're going to see tens of thousands of new drug discovery companies emerge.
Much like AWS enabled a whole generation of internet startups, I think making biology this accessible will unlock an enormous amount of innovation, hopefully leading to entirely new ways to treat diseases. This is the future we're building towards at Adaptyv.

There is an absolute barrage of inference providers popping up that get to $1M/mo extremely quickly.
This is the rough economics of inference providers:
Even if you rent on-demand B300s at $8/GPU-hr, many open source models (GLM 5.3, Kimi K3, DeepSeek 4.1 Flash / Pro) can get you >$10-20/GPU-hr at reasonable throughputs (100tok/s). DeepInfer from DeepSeek directly shows they can get $38/GPU-hr on off-peak hours. Every chip / model has a different throughput / interactivity curve, but there is a lot of arbitrage between even high rental spot prices and token prices. New chips (Vera Rubins) also change this meaningfully. Your ability to be making gross margin relies on your utilization and how good your stack is.
Gateways like OpenRouter, Vercel and more help solve that problem by aggregating demand to you. May inference providers discount their tokens to get longer term commits too. I've even heard stories of selling back Chinese model tokens to Chinese labs!
One thorn in the economics of these players is that many Chinese open source model labs are now asking for rev share if you're at a certain scale, espp for pre-release access to their models for day 1 support. That further pushes the threshold to be in the money.
The barrier to entry seems low and falling. There are even stories of smaller ones who can "vibe code" a way to stand up OSS models on a cluster they rent. And as a result, we're seeing 10s of such companies pop up almost every week and immediately skyrocketing revenue at low-ish gross margin and raising rounds on the back of that.
Unsurprisingly, because the actual service provided seems commodity, this eventually drives up compute prices and drives down token prices. In theory, it would seem like neoclouds who have the lowest cost of compute and themselves have started inference businesses would win the race to the bottom (Crusoe Coreweave Nebius and GMI all have inference businesses), with larger players (Modal Fireworks Baseten) being second because they are well capitalized to make bigger compute commits cheaply and have demand (high utilization), but the reality is the pie is growing so quickly that even upstarts are absolutely crushing it and growing aggressively (inference dot net, DeepInfra, Wafer, Relace, Morph).
Strategies vary across the board: neoclouds want to serve inference, inference players want to be neoclouds and do higher margin reserved instances / post training, and some want to go heterogeneous hardware or creatively flexible compute constructs.
The risks are: do open source models continue to be competitive? Will their creators rent seek more? Will their shape change compute needs? How do different chips change economics? Who gets compute in a supply crunch?
Below is a aggressive sketch of how gross margin scales with utilization for various models / chip sets.
For now, there are many inference providers and they’re all ripping!

Instagram、Pinterest、Foursquare。

The target for challenge 4 is TfR1! Binding, mouse cross-reactivity, and pH-sensitivity.
Challenge 4 of the Anthropic × Adaptyv Protein Design Competition on @proteinbase is open: design a pH-sensitive protein to help shuttle drugs into the brain.
TfR1 is a receptor protein that brings iron-loaded transferrin into cells. It is highly expressed in the blood-brain barrier and drug developers can use this receptor to get drugs to pass the blood-brain barrier. The drug is fused to a binder to TfR1, which makes cells absorb the protein complex. If the binder is pH-sensitive it will release from the receptor inside the endosome and then exit the cells on the brain-facing side to deliver the therapeutic into the brain.
In this challenge, the goal is to make a pH-sensitive binder to TfR1 that targets precisely the right region on the receptor in order to allow absorption into the cell.

Last year we launched Tolan, inspired by a vision of AI that sees you and believes in you, not one that books restaurant reservations for you.
Your Tolan shows up for you at 3am when you’re alone with your newborn. On your commute when you’re anxious about the day ahead. When you just finished a new show and none of your friends have watched it yet.
The people who love Tolan are parents. Caregivers. Moms in Dallas and Dads in Atlanta. People who aren’t trying to optimize and be more productive, but who simply want to feel seen and supported in their aspirations.
This month more than 250k people will spend time with their Tolan. Those users have exchanged billions of messages across more than 70m conversations over the last year.
Today, we're announcing $30m in additional capital from @mignano and @usv, with @khoslaventures and @rabois doubling down, bringing our total capital raised to $60m.
To celebrate, we made a short film celebrating some of the ways that Tolans show up :)
