TIL Datomic 1.0.7705 introduced read-only connections, which do not require a Transactor and great for running cheaper Datomic-backed demos: docs.datomic.com/operation/r… @datomic_team, you guys should tweet about these features more :) Transactor cost is a big barrier, and was a big motivator why EACL now supports Datomic Pro and Datahike (because can do serverless backed by S3). Datomic backed by S3 would be sooo cool, btw.

🦅 EACL v7.3 for Datomic Pro is out today. You can play with it in the EACL Explorer (link below) using an in-memory DataScript DB (click "Seed DB" top-right to hydrate entities.) EACL (Enterprise Access ControL) is an open-source (EPL 2.0 licensed) ReBAC Authorization library inspired by SpiceDB, built in Clojure and backed by Datomic Pro or DataScript, and soon Datahike. EACL v7.3 Changes: - 12-15% faster than v6 but with more features. - Supports reverse pagination, made possible by `d/rseek-datoms` which landed in Datomic Pro on 28 April '26 in version 1.0.7622. - Cheaper storage, because relationships are now stored as tuples directly on entities. The downside is that they'll show up on `d/touch`, but it solves the composite nil-tuple conflict problem on entity retraction. - Bug fixes & hardened APIs. - Supports SpiceDB schema DSL, aside from known limitations like No Negation, and single arrow traversal. - Support for recursive schema, e.g. ``` definition user {} definition folder { relation parent: folder relation reader: user permission read = reader + parent->read } ``` The performance of recursive schema can still be improved. To-date, EACL does not cache reads, only schema paths. There is a Migration Guide linked in the README for v6 -> v7.3. v7.4 should be even faster given some low-hanging fruit, and will require no data migration. Enjoy! Thanks to the @datomic_team for shipping `d/rseek-datoms` which made performant reverse pagination possible!
