The only solution that a bureaucrat can come up with is more bureaucracy. I kid you not I was talking with a government employee who said that if only they got more funding all of the problems in his department would go away… he wanted more money and people. It will never occur to a bureaucrat to fire government employees as a solution to a problem, to remove systems, to simplify, to cut regulations. If you have a problem, and you ask government for help, it will only make it worse, because now there is an army of pencil pushers who’s existence is tied to “solving” the problem. They will never actually grab a shovel or develop the technology to fix something, they will just consult, push paper and congratulate themselves for a job well done. So many levels of disconnection from reality, and each bureaucrat feels himself instrumental to the flourishing of civilization. One more way how baureocrats cement their job security is by inventing a system so complicated, stupid and punishing that you cannot do anything without their involvement. Entire civilizations have developed such learned helplessness, that they do not event start thinking about fixing a problem without first thinking about who to ask for permission…

This is thinking engineering through from first principles. Let’s do aluminum because it’s aerospace… no, what is the best material for the conditions we will encounter.

Cannot have AI process improvement without having a process first.

🌶️Hot take - All european/western countries should dramatically cut their taxes and social programs and let people invest, manage, succeed or fail and deal with the consequences of their actions like adults. This is what freedom means. Governments are demonstrably bad with managing our money. The only things governments should focus on are absolute core national interests so military, police, infrastructure, healthcare and education (in that order). And the education should teach love and respect for your country and ancestors, christian ethics of sacrifice, roman law and greek philosophy, and the understanding that western societies (before the last 15 years) are the best civilization ever created in the history of humanity... and that they lifted more people out of suffering and poverty than any communist could ever imagine.

Many organizations want to put AI into their workflows not taking the time to understand what value stream is. They don’t know what they are doing, don’t want to know, just want to use AI to give them all the answers - and best answers are those where they don’t need to change.

Considering all physical limitations of space travel it seems to me like the only way humanity might be able to colonize planets around other stars are automated ships managed with robotics, storing and preserving eggs, and hatching humans only after a habitat is established.

Looking forward to seeing what is achievable with real supply chains, battery and actuator manufacturing, raw metals supply, and the assembly itself… by comparison the cognitive function and intelligence of this army of machines seems almost trivial :)

What I am missing from this AI solution to an obvious problem of runaway bureaucracy is the lowering of bureaucracy… why not create an AI system AND significantly simplify the paperwork? Why is a solution to artificial complexity always more complexity?
