Can a single database architecture satisfy both vibe-coded and large scale enterprise apps?
The same approach makes small database ultra cheap to run and branch can also make a large one faster and easier to operate. We call this architecture Lakebase.

Neon now has realtime, built by the team behind Electric. Turn any SQL query into a live query, joins and aggregates included. All inside Postgres, and ready for agents.
It’s in public beta and available in all Neon plans. Give it a try and tell us what you think!

Super excited to welcome the Responsive team to @Databricks/@neondatabase to help take Lakebase Postgres to the next level. The best database is a lakebase!
I’m excited to announce that Responsive has been acquired by Databricks to accelerate the development of Lakebase and Neon!
We couldn't be more excited to join the Lakebase team. We've long admired their technical vision, and the more we got to know them, the more impressed we became by their ambition, execution, and momentum. It feels like a natural home for us.
I want to thank Responsive’s customers, investors, and especially the team. More than anything, I’m grateful for the trust you’ve placed in us through the good times and the tough times.
Onward and upward!

Everyone has been obsessed by Jev and what it can do, and they should be! Fast typed decisions >> slow text generation. It's a complete game changer. But how do you do that with all the data you have?
We just dropped 𝚊𝚒_𝚍𝚎𝚌𝚒𝚍𝚎(), which runs decision models natively on all your data in @databricks . Now you can run system one decisions on all your big data, see screenshot.

Not every marketer is familiar with Databricks today, but that's about to change!
Marketing agents simply do not work without real-time customer+business context. Databricks' CustomerLake is quickly becoming the cornerstone of the marketing stack of the future, providing just that.
It was great discussing all of that on stage at Braze's Forge conference. Thank you for having me, @jon_hyman!

🎉 Introducing Databricks AI Decide: make fast decisions on your governed data
Following the TypeSafe AI Jev launch, we’ve seen increasing demand for a fast, low-cost API that turns raw text into structured decisions. However, many of our enterprise customers are unable to use Jev due to data privacy and access concerns.
AI Decide is our enterprise-grade function for fast decisions on customer’s governed data. It is supported for batch use cases like processing millions of documents with SQL and for realtime applications like model routing through our REST API. Starting early next week, customers will also be able to govern permissions on the ai_decide function through Databricks Unity Gateway.
A big shoutout to @mattydtweetz @ivanzhouyq @nihit_desai @hanlintang for getting this new function launched in less than a week!

Excited to announce our new partnership with @DecagonAI to bring richer enterprise data intelligence directly into customer conversations.
AI agents are only as useful as the context they can access.
Enterprises already have an incredibly rich record of their customers in Databricks. Orders, payments, product usage, preferences, and countless other signals all help explain who a customer is and what they need.
Through this partnership, Decagon agents can access governed data from the Databricks when they need it, while insights from those conversations can flow back into Databricks and become useful across the rest of the business.
We’re excited to work with the Decagon team to make enterprise customer agents more context aware while keeping data governance at the center.

We’re partnering with @Databricks to bring enterprise data intelligence into every Decagon customer conversation.
Agents can access governed customer data directly from a company’s lakehouse, while conversation insights flow back into Databricks.
This gives agents richer context in every conversation and teams a more complete view of their customers.
Decagon is also a launch partner for Databricks’ new Transactable Marketplace and will be available through Databricks Marketplace.

We've moved to an approach @databricks that gives "Day 1" access to 12,000 employees whenever a new frontier model is released. Very tricky to do while avoiding massive cost spikes and quality regressions. We've written up our approach if others are interested (see below).

Proud to announce a new partnership with @databricks and the “Databricks Field at California Memorial Stadium.” Databricks is now the Official Enterprise Data + AI platform for Cal Athletics.

All seven Databricks co-founders began our journey together at UC Berkeley. We started the company in a room in Soda Hall, moved to a small office on Addison Street, and spent our first few years in Berkeley before eventually heading to SF. Two of our co-founders are still on the faculty.
Today we announced Databricks Field at California Memorial Stadium, our first collegiate athletics sponsorship.
Berkeley shaped everything about how this company thinks, and this is our way of investing in the next generation of students and builders who'll do their best work on that campus.
Go Bears!

At the beginning of this year, big portions of @databricks started running on Genie. When finance started doing all their work with Genie, we noticed that they were combining Genie with a Live Cloud Spreadsheet called Row Zero. This combination is really powerful. We met the Row Zero team and were blown away. Today, we're excited to announce that we've agreed to acquire Row Zero. Stay tuned for an awesome experience of Genie + Row Zero:

Databricks' @alighodsi on why most companies wouldn't even notice if frontier AI models stopped advancing:
"The models are smart enough, but they just don't have the context that exists inside any organization. They have not been in every meeting. They don't know what's in everybody's heads. They don't know all the processes."
"There's always a couple of employees who know everything in every organization. You go tap on their shoulder, and everybody's like, 'Oh my God, what would happen if he or she quits?' [The models] don't have that context."
"If you just fused that and gave that context to the AI models... I think there are so many productivity gains you could get for any organization on the planet. For that, we actually don't need smarter models."
"We don't need a smarter model that can solve Navier-Stokes or conjectures or do better on Humanity's Last Exam."
"If the frontier doesn't advance, it doesn't actually matter, I think, for the vast majority of organizations on the planet. They're just so far behind in the adoption curve of actually automating things and getting value out of this stuff."
@alighodsi
Databricks' @alighodsi on AI risk and adoption:
Ali isn't losing sleep over the existential risk debate.
He says a number of conditions would all have to be true simultaneously to enable an actual runaway takeoff scenario, and currently several opposite conditions exist.
Each frontier training run requires significantly more resources. Power, GPUs, engineers - and some attempts fail, burning up huge piles of money with them. Until that reverses, he doesn't see the self-improving loop happening.
Cyber is what he's watching most closely and where he anticipates real impact. Most orgs are not equipped for the coming change in agentic capabilities. The time between a vulnerability being published and being weaponized has collapsed from years to hours.
On adoption, he believes most companies don't need a smarter model. The models are already smart enough. The gap is context they don't absorb - the things an employee who's worked at a company for five years learned by osmosis.
If the frontier stopped advancing today, he thinks it wouldn't meaningfully change the value most are extracting from AI anyway.

Databricks CEO and co-founder @alighodsi joined @EdLudlow on Bloomberg Tech to discuss the AI pacing debate and why he believes the existential risk to humanity today is close to zero.
On where companies should focus their efforts today, Ghodsi shares, “AI models are great at breaking in, and they have all these targets to go through. We have to make huge investments in cybersecurity and protect our software systems."
Lakewatch is purpose-built to help defend against those risks.
