microsoft, and particularly azure, don’t get nearly enough credit for the stuff openai launches. they do an amazing amount of work to make it happen; we are deeply grateful for the partnership. 🙏 they have built by far the best AI infra out there.

@xplorespace worked alongside our partner @Microsoft to demonstrate how the commercial cloud can provide satellite mission management for @NOAA’s legacy polar satellites. Learn more: tinyurl.com/33fxhpfa #AzureSpace #XploreSpace #MajorTom #spaceasaservice #xplore #hiring
I wanted to highlight a few things from the recent #PlanetaryComputer release planetarycomputer.microsoft.…. There are a ton of new datasets to use, all available through our @STACspec API. I'll go through more later, but the highlight for me is the new, global Sentinel-1 products

We are excited to share first looks at GOES-18 imagery! A wonderful full view of Earth. Though beautiful, GOES-18 data is preliminary and non-operational.

You can point at a STAC API from Microsoft's Planetary Computer, @DEarthAfrica, @Element84's Sentinel-2 COGs or the ENTIRE LANDSAT ARCHIVE from @USGSLandsat and load data into an xarray in minutes (with only a small amount of fussing around metadata).

Great thread, lots of useful ideas packed in 👌On Earth Engine, I agree. Planetary computer is built on an open stack and has far more appeal for that reason 🌎

That being said, we need better & more tools to lower the barrier to entry It’s not just about Google Earth Engine, but I’m much more a fan of Microsoft’s Planetary Computer if you’re serious about learning remote sensing
