Here are some of my thoughts about Twitters announcement to restrict SMS-based 2FA linkedin.com/pulse/twitter-w…
#accountsecurity #authentication #2factorauthetification
(1) Twitter seems to be serious about pushing people off SMS-based 2FA.
I understand that SMS is expensive and comes with it's own security flaws. But it's still the most accessible 2FA-method out there. I'm sure that many people will end up disabling 2FA, which is bad.
(3) Twitter is now pushing all of them, that don't have a paid membership, to move to a different authentication method.
(5) Once again, a new Twitter feature that is appealing at first sight, but has tons of flaws when you look at it more carefully.
This is why companies need good Product Leaders that keep their teams honest on trade-off decisions.

(2) In 2023 Twitter announced that 2.3% of their user base has 2FA enabled on their account. bleepingcomputer.com/news/se…

If someone has a Koala available, can you please try to register their fingerprint to unlock a smartphone?
Can one of you please try and share your findings?
