Startup culture has become far too memetic, especially in Silicon Valley Great startup ideas are usually contrarian, otherwise, someone would have built it already How do you stay contrarian when everyone reads the same things, everyone posts the same memes about the Kardeshev scale or whatever, and everyone goes to the same AI meetups? You can ask 10 people in Silicon Valley what their heretical ideas are and they’ll all say the same predictable things

Replying to @UNDERDOGSgame
@UNDERDOGSgame solves some basic VR embodiement issues with what we call First And A Half Person - a slight separation of the player from the game world, in our case, via mech. This is the foundational idea behind UNDERDOGS. It might not be relevant to every VR game, but if you're interested in hearing about the thought process and design decisions that give UNDERDOGS' its sense of weight and immersion, check out Yot's talk:

reason AI and mobile development get much more love and attention compared to XR related work is simply because there are open-source, readily available and low-cost pathways to becoming a homebrew enthusiast with AI and mobile dev.. More "locked-down" headsets won't change this.

Zuck should have gone further— Instead of calling it a "trade-off", he should have come out to say that none of their AR/VR visions would materialize without these AI advancements. Missed opportunity to authoritatively articulate the symbiosis between AI and spatial tech

MR experiences like this will be very cool once there’s some real context to the gameplay. Building that context is unfortunately very difficult and even harder than normal VR game design. For that reason I worry about MR being a ‘design distraction’, pulling great devs away from making desperately needed breakthrough VR content while they focus on experimenting with something else. Software entrepreneurship is mainly about making use of what's already possible. It's opportunistic. Deep tech entrepreneurship is mostly about making entirely new things possible. It's opportunity-creating.

I am increasingly convinced that in order to be an effective founder or exec, the list of "stuff you do" that forms your identity has to be as small as fucking possible. Because it's always changing. You only ever really get to focus on stuff that's broken, until it's fixed.
