This is absolutely insane. A Trump-linked American oil company is preparing to drill for oil in Greenland despite not having received permission from the Greenlandic authorities. And it gets worse. Greenland Energy has already brought drilling equipment ashore in eastern Greenland even though the government says it had not approved the landing of that equipment. Greenland’s government has now issued a β€œstrong warning,” making clear that future logistical activities must be approved by Greenlandic authorities before they happen. This is about much more than one oil well. Sovereignty means that foreign companies do not get to arrive on your territory, unload equipment without authorization, and then pressure you into accepting what they have already set in motion. Especially when the company is connected to the political circle of a US president who has repeatedly talked about taking control of Greenland.

In this 2025 paper each colored rectangle points to duplicated or overlapping areas that should show microscopy images from animals in different treatment conditions. It's another seriously flawed paper from Toxicology Reports (1/6) 🧡

First decent rare trilobite of the year. Failleana indeterminata from an old quarry in the Ordovician of eastern Ontario. Flipped over a rock and there it was. Still half buried in fossilized muck.

Make nuance and critical thinking great again. It may be uncomfortable to accept, but not everything is black and white. It's possible that a warming climate is driving increased extreme fire weather events *at the same time* that legacy forest management practices have increased fuel load in some areas, making wildfires worse overall. Either way, human activity is having an impact on the natural environment.

Some interesting cheating in a 2026 Nature paper. Similar areas in this fluorescence measurement are unexpected, these tend to be quite noisy. Source data confirms sections have been copied and pasted πŸ‘‡

🚨STARSHIP 40 Update🚨 So, @SpaceX and @elonmusk released some imagery and information that gives more details on their attempt to salvage the ship. What did I get wrong: ❌️The Starship was not partially lifted onto a platform to get the stern (engines) out of the water ❌️The ship does not appear to be making way toward any port so any recovery, eventual lift is now in question What we do know: ▢️In the last 24 hours Normand Ranger and Starship moved northwest and is now 799 nautical miles from Dampier. ▢️Go Australis, after a day in Dampier, is heading back out. ▢️It appears that no tow was directly affixed to Starship, instead they have strung together a noose of large Yokohama fenders - these are used as cushions between vessels and docks. ▢️The fenders are looped around STARSHIP and Normand Ranger is towing it like a fishing net - specifically a siene net, just without the net. ▢️This is causing the fenders to come into contact with the STARSHIP and appears to be causing some damage to the surface. ▢️This method of moving STARSHIP is unlike any other towing/salvage process commonly used. It also explains the difficulty in towing STARSHIP as they dont appear to have any direct control of it with a tow line. ▢️Not sure if SPACEX has contracted with one of the large marine salvage firms like @beleefboskalis or @resolvemarine for support.
The SpaceX Recovery team is still working to recover Flight 13’s Starship from the Indian Ocean. They’ve been overcoming challenging conditions and increasingly rough seas as they attempt to guide the 52m long spacecraft to port

The current view from Faulder, British Columbia, Canada tonight as the Bald Range Fire continues to push into local communities. The Bald Range wildfire (K51490), is located approximately 15 kilometres west of Summerland. Firefighters, structure protection personnel, helicopters and airtankers are responding. Large scale evacuations are underway. A little rain could go a long way across North America.

The coloured rectangles indicate where images in this 2019 paper have been inappropriately duplicated. Many thousands of papers like this have been published. Publishers make no effort to identify and retract them, nor do they facilitate third party reports in any meaningful way.

When journalists & scientists talk about overwhelming evidence for a natural origin of Covid, they're often referring to 2 papers by the Proximal Origin authors & friends. Many scientists like @mbw61567742 have thoroughly refuted these papers, even on a technical level by catching key errors. Their peer-reviewed analysis are published by statistics or economics journals rather than life sciences journals. Many life sciences journals declared their bias for a natural origin of Covid in 2020 and, six years on, still will not publish letters arguing for a lab origin.
The pillars of the Covid market story were the Worobey & Pekar 2022 Science articles. I'd showed that Pekar was based on a plain stats logic error & revered when fixed. econjwatch.org/articles/an-a… Now I show multiple ways Worobey is wrong, invalidating it too. xitter.cf/EconJWatch/status/2084…

The Worobey et al (2022) claims of wet-market spillover as the origin of Covid were always fatally flawed, but if you haven’t yet been convinced, please read this comprehensive and devastating take-down by Michael Weissman @mbw61567742 . Not only does it give a great summary of all the many, many factors pointing away from the Huanan market as the site of origin, it also picks apart the statistical contradictions and highlights the motivated reasoning by the authors to grasp at any explanation other than the glaringly obvious one that is even stated by the WHO (and more recently in Faucis diary); that early covid cases had nothing to do with the market and later cases were biased because they specifically looked for cases close to the market. It is high time @ScienceMagazine issued a correction or retraction of the Worobey et al paper and its accompanying paper from Pekar et al that has earlier been picked apart by @nizzaneela The Huanan wet market was not the site of origin covid, it was a superspreader, everyone knows it, and as long as the scientific record is not corrected it will be detrimental to our understanding of pandemic origins and spread. @gdemaneuf @BillyBostickson @Ayjchan @jbloom_lab @R_H_Ebright @mattwridley
An Article in Science on Wet-Market Covid Origins is Unreliable by Michael B. Weissman An influential paper by Worobey et al. and 17 other authors published in Science in 2022 claimed that case locations and nucleic acid samples showed that SARS-CoV-2 had first been introduced to humans at the Huanan Seafood Market. Several lines of evidence suggest the introduction to humans was earlier and elsewhere. econjwatch.org/file_download…

The @ScienceMagazine paper featured by @nytimes actually illustrates 1⃣Difficulty of using AI to design viruses 2⃣Quality data needed but missing for dangerous pathogens 3⃣Likelihood that when AI is used to invent dangerous pathogens, it will be by a well-resourced research lab.
Breaking News: Scientists have used A.I. to create new viruses for the first time, raising hopes for medical advances while also raising the possibility that the technology could someday be used to invent dangerous pathogens. nyti.ms/4bxx7Wy
