I work with this guy Bob, and he’s the best developer I’ve ever worked with. He’s like a code janitor, he sees a mess, quietly fixes it with test coverage, and submits a PR.
Finally, something for those of us that aren’t show-ers
As engineering, product, design, DS, etc. melt into a new kind of role, I was reflecting on what roles might look like in the future. For example, when I look at the Claude Code team I see what I think is five archetypes:
1. Prototyper: comes up with brand new ideas; churns out many ideas, most of which don't ship
2. Builder: quickly turns a prototype/idea into production-grade product/infra
3. Sweeper: cleans up the UI, simplifies the code and system, unships, optimizes performance
4. Grower: takes a product that has been built and iterates on it to improve Product-Market Fit
5. Maintainer: owns a mature system to make it secure, reliable, fast, and efficient as it scales
Many people span across 2 roles, and sometimes 3 roles. I also notice that these roles are not really tied to job function -- eg. across Anthropic, some designers match category 1, some 2, some 3; same for engineers, PM, DS.
A healthy team needs a mix of these, depending on the product:
- A product that is new and pre-PMF needs people that are strong at 1+2+3
- A product that is growing and has found PMF needs 2+3+4 and some 5
- A product that has strong PMF needs 3+4+5 and some 2
Maybe product roles of the future will look more like this, and less like the domain-specific roles of today?

Looking for generative AI small business website builders for a small home pottery studio. I was underwhelmed with the Wix AI builder, I’m sure there are some new startups ready to eat their lunch. Any recommendations appreciated.
As someone that’s been away awhile, I have to say:
It’s a much more fun time building a software product with AI tooling. ⚡️

In our latest blog, we take a close look at two remarkable VLMs, and, using these models, we build a prototype “queryable Earth” functionality that allows retrieving images along with their geolocations using text queries over a large geographical area.

Have you heard of the SpatioTemporal Asset Catalog (STAC)? STAC allows you to download multiple Landsat scenes/metadata from the cloud. There are two new STAC tutorials! Learn more about STAC and these tutorials here: ow.ly/Zrw550QH93N

Did you know that with 2 Python libraries, 6 lines of code and around 15 seconds, you can load satellite data from anywhere in the world?
This is so much easier than it used to be!
I’m pretty sure my dream ticket at this point in my career is to set up CI/CD status lava lamps. Someday…..🥲

I’ve always appreciated when managers / tech leads / PMs participate in a technical conversation and end it with: “okay, I’ll do <specific work I can help with>, and you focus on the important stuff you need to fix”
Updating docs, setting reminders, follow-up comms, etc. 🙏
Cloudfront and Wordpress do not play nicely together in 2023. I’ve had to configure legacy settings / poor security to get basic content editing working. It feels like you need a PhD in both CDNs and Wordpress at times. My best advice is try bypassing the CDN and work backwards.
I would love an architecture diagram repo for hosting various flavors of self-hosted Wordpress on AWS in 2023 — headless, alb, bitnami vs self-hosted, best practices for caching content, static content in s3, patching, plug-in management, security, cost savings. IaC a bonus!
A huge addition to the ecosystem, specifically supporting legacy workflows getting started with @STACspec !
new repo🎉alert!
