Perhaps you are wondering about AZA/VEN? Our group addressed this question at ASH this year (manuscript forthcoming). sciencedirect.com/science/ar… Basically AZA = AZA/VEN for time at home.

Conclusions: 1. Time toxicity of tx is very high for both Intense and HMAs 2. Treatment choice may depend on pts' preference for time at home versus prolonging survival 3. We should track time at home on trials and develop interventions to improve time at home

Privileged to present #ASCO2022: Time at Home among older AML patients. meetings.asco.org/abstracts-… Method: A propensity weighted SEER-Medicare dataset Results: 1. Treatment burdens very high 2. Pts tx w/Intensive Induction lived longer, but had less time at home v. HMA-tx pts

One of my best #ASH21 moments: Seeing Konan Beke (2nd year Med student at UNC) present our work. My hope will be that ASH serves as a launching pad for a long pt-centered career in hematology.

Does AZA/VEN increase TAH? No. Though CR much higher w/VEN (~50% v. 15%), no increase in TAH. Manuscript will describe in detail, but more time in clinic and in infusion for patients on VEN.

Although encouraging that TAH increases over time for survivors, sobering that the majority of patients (over 70%) did not survive to 1 year.

Over the first year, survivors spent 42% of their days engaged in care. This did not differ by ELN risk. Month to month survivors spent less time admitted (28% in the first month to 4% month 12). Clinic visits remained at ~20%. ED admits stable around 2-4%.

So proud of @ChrisJensenMD Oral Abstract #ASH21. How much time can older patients with AML expect to spend engaged in care with "less intensive" therapies? ~42% of days. Only 58% at home. AZA v. AZA/VEN equivalent. Some thoughts on our work... #leusm #geriheme @corp_UNC

These data presented are substantially different from prior work done by Patel (Blood Adv (2021) estimated ICER of $260k/QALY. These data differ primarily on the estimated Life Years Gained. It remains unclear to me how to arrive at an addition of 1.89 LYs with VEN.
