Dear SaaS providers,
SSO and 2FA are not enterprise level security features.
They should be the norm, as https became the norm a few years ago.

A thing to note about Europe that a Brazilian friend told me, who moved to Amsterdam to take a paycut from their net earnings in Brazil (!!)

I have always consistently underestimated the difference a great product manager means to productivity of the whole engineering team and neighbouring teams.
One of the consistently underrated areas on how to improve an engineering organisation… without product it’s difficult.

Starting a startup is fundamentally irrational.
So why do so many immigrants do it?
Because they come from not much and have NOTHING TO LOOSE.
They are HUNGRY and DRIVEN TO WIN.
Immigration is a test for RESILIENCE.
All together creates powerful founder archetype.

Early stage hiring heavily focused on raw horsepower of every new hire. As companies grow, checkboxes and credentials become more important. Lot of people at later stages excel at following conventional success playbooks, so it’s natural to expect regression to mean performance.

And if I interview you for a job, you can bet I'll try my hardest to make you comfortable in the hopes you walk away with a great experience (regardless of whether you get an offer in the end).
I approach interviews as learning experiences for both of us. No shame. No anxiety.

"Hey we don't know each other but you work in tech and I'm looking for a technical co-founder for my startup."
"Do you have funding?"
"No. But the idea is vetted."
"Vetted how?"
"I have a mockup."
"Good luck."
"Thanks. So you're in? I was thinking you can get 30%..."

The most important competency for a startup is the ability to identify undiscovered talent and to then have the conviction to bet on them with unreasonable responsibility.

I've seen many types of people succeed as engineering managers. But the only types I've seen consistently succeed in multiple companies were those who genuinely cared about people, had an optimistic outlook, and were close enough to technology to stay grounded in their judgment.
