I’m speaking out against Flock Mass Surveillance and all ALPRs at Dutchess County Legislature and Poughkeepsie City Council meetings. These 140,000+ connected cameras photograph every car. They’ve been used by ICE to hunt immigrants and by cops to stalk people. Get the Flock out!

🚨 A family opened their back door to let their dog out... and a cop they didn't know was there KILLED her in five seconds.
Then he pointed his gun at her OWNER.
Her name was Tesla. A 3-year-old black Lab from Rochester, New York.
October 19th, 2018. Police were chasing two suspects through backyards.
They already had them in CUFFS. It was OVER.
But Officer Javier Algarin hopped the Dempsey family's fence AGAIN.
No warrant. No knock. Nobody inside even knew he was there.
Three seconds later, Charles Dempsey opened the back door.
Tesla ran off her OWN porch into her OWN backyard.
"Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Hey!"
BANG. BANG.
Five seconds. She was DEAD.
Then he turned the gun on Charles.
"LEAVE MY PROPERTY!" Charles screamed.
"Get back!" the officer yelled.
Years later, under oath:
Could this have been avoided if you'd just knocked and asked permission?
His answer: "Yes."
The family fought for seven years.
A federal jury found him PERSONALLY liable. $125,000.
Rochester's training? "DELIBERATE INDIFFERENCE."
At least 6 dogs killed by that department from 2017 to 2019.
And that officer?
He's STILL on the job.
In 5 days it'll be EIGHT YEARS since Tesla died in her own yard.
HOW IS HE STILL WEARING A BADGE?!!!!!!

“Let me die,” American photojournalist Heidi Levine repeats to journalists Jasper Nathaniel as they try to outrun masked Israeli settlers who attacked her on Friday while she covered the olive harvest in the West Bank village of Abu Falah, near Ramallah.
Around 80 settlers attacked Palestinian olive harvesters in the village, AP reported. The Palestinian Red Crescent said it treated six people injured in two attacks in Abu Falah.
Levine, a freelancer for the Washington Post, told the Committee to Protect Journalists that the settlers knocked her down and kicked her for at least 10 minutes, even after she identified herself as an American journalist. They stole her camera, phone and bag. She was eventually taken to a hospital in Ramallah.
"The IDF provided cover, with tear gas and machine guns, while the settlers beat" Levine "nearly to death," Nathaniel wrote, adding that soldiers then shot a Palestinian bystander and aimed their guns at and shoved paramedics trying to treat him. AP photos and circulating videos show Israeli soldiers standing over a wounded Palestinian man after they shot him.
Andrey X, an activist also at the scene, said a Palestinian man "saved our lives from the settler-terrorists who attacked the olive harvesters and journalists” armed only with a slingshot.

More than 100 elected officials have joined me in calling on parking lot and garage owners across New York City: Don’t give ICE a place to operate. Don’t rent to them. Tell them they’re not welcome.
Last week, ICE agents shot Oscar Belgal in the neck in Marble Hill while his 5-year-old son sat in the car. They had been staging nearby in a private parking lot.
Our city laws keep ICE off public property. Now, we’re calling on private property owners to do the same. One garage on Morton Street already removed ICE vehicles after neighbors spoke out. Every owner has that power.

Hi @NYSComptroller, your move. The retirements of over a million public sector workers, including mine, should not be invested in a genocide. Divest the Common Retirement Fund of Israel bonds. Not only the moral choice, but also the fiscally responsible!

Dutchess County Legislature voted to cover the Flock cameras, require drivers to leave 3 feet of space when passing pedestrians or cyclists, and call on Governor Hochul to sign the Responsible Data Center Development Act. Thank you to members of @mhvdsa and @forthemany who spoke!

ABOLISH ICE. END NYPD VIOLENCE.
17 New York State Socialists in Office and Democratic nominees respond to Thursday’s shooting of Oscar Belgal and call to abolish ICE, end NYPD assistance of ICE, and disband NYPD’s SRG.
This is weak. We don’t need to wait for body camera footage to know that federal agents shouldn’t be shooting people in our streets. Abolish and prosecute ICE!
The shooting of a New Yorker by ICE agents today is deeply disturbing, especially amid reports that a child was in the car when shots were fired. I’m relieved the man is receiving medical care and the child was unharmed. But enough is enough.
New Yorkers deserve the full truth about what happened. DHS must immediately release all body camera footage and ensure a full, independent investigation. When excessive force is used, there must be accountability. No one is above the law.
Â
For months, I’ve warned that ICE’s increasingly aggressive tactics put lives at risk. That’s why Senate Democrats fought for enforceable safeguards holding ICE agents to the same standards as other law enforcement officers.
Â
DHS can make all the claims it wants. The footage will speak for itself. Release it.

Two federal agents are going door to door near the crime scene “trying to get evidence.” Darializa Avila Chevalier and state Sen. Gustavo Rivera are following them to tell people they don’t have to answer or speak with the agents.

This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed.
This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.
Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.
Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children.
Abolish ICE.

ICE rip young children away from father—throw little boy down into the street.
Boy barely avoids getting run over by car.
"They're just kids!" witness yells.
"She's holding a baby!"
All in front of library playground.
Agents so rough with kids—literally knock their shoes off.
Incident occurred beside Library Park Playground in Harrison, New Jersey.
Ms. Chi doesn't have an account on this platform—so posting first full length and credited video here to help raise awareness.

Three years ago today, 1,100 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage. My heart is with those who lost loved ones and felt the pain of that day.
What immediately followed was destruction on a scale this generation hasn’t seen in Israel's nearly 80 years of violent oppression of Palestinians — much of which was funded by American tax dollars. Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians, including over 20,000 children. More than 175,000 Palestinians have been wounded. Thousands more are still missing under the rubble. Entire Palestinian family names have been wiped from the civil registry. The Israeli military has bombed hospitals, schools, mosques, churches, humanitarian aid distribution centers, and water systems. Nearly the entire population of Gaza has been driven from their homes and forced to live in tents that have also been bombed. Israel is subjecting Palestinian men, women, and children to systematic torture and collective starvation as a weapon of genocide. Israel has killed over 1,400 Palestinians since its so-called ceasefire. Our tax dollars are paying for these atrocities and unconditional support from both the Biden and Trump administrations have allowed them to continue.
Here in Uptown and the Bronx, our neighbors voted to invest in a politics of life: one where their tax dollars are used to invest in our babies at home, not in dropping bombs on babies abroad. If we are to build a politics of human dignity that disrupts cycles of violence, we must reckon with the reality of our own failure to intervene in decades of dispossession, apartheid, and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
Every human life is precious, and we must start acting like it. As a Member of Congress, I will do everything in my power to build a foreign policy rooted in the safety, equality, and freedom of all people, including ending U.S. taxpayer funding for Israel’s war crimes, fighting for a full arms embargo, and for the Palestinian right of return.

Amazon workers at the SWF1 facility held their first Unfair Labor Practice Strike! We joined with the Teamsters and other allies to picket in solidarity as we continue to organize together to provide ongoing support to workers rising against their corporate bosses everywhere!
As a Poughkeepsie Councilmember I see how climate change hurts our city. We depend on the Hudson River for drinking water, but extreme rain causes flooding and stormwater runoff creates contamination. NY must build 15 GW of publicly owned renewable energy to fight climate change!

HUGE: Autozone workers just won the first ever union at the company.
Despite Autozone spending an estimated $210,696 and using every tactic in the book to stop just 11 workers from forming a union, the small shop in New York chose to unionize today.
These workers will now join the @UAW.
