At no time did Olufunmilayo Ogunsanya get “cleared” or “exonerated” by any court in the UK or in Nigeria. The only case in a UK court – in the High Court of Justice King’s Beach Division, Leeds – was vacated. See screenshot 1. The only court case to have been determined so far remains the one at the Federal High Court, Lagos, which ended with the discharge and acquittal of Aseyan. Even that judgement did not “clear” or “exonerate” Aseyan; it was not a judgement on her guilt or innocence. Rather it was a judgement of Ogunsanya’s inability to prove that Aseyan’s rape claims were defamatory. Seen screenshot 2. Similarly, the GMC did not “clear” or “exonerate” Ogunsanya, rather the GMC found Bola Aseyan had not done enough to “prove” her rape allegations. On all the items under consideration, the GMC said “not found to be proved”. GMC’s pronouncement was on Aseyan’s proof, not Ogunsanya’s guilt or innocence. Screenshots 3 and 4. So, while the GMC said Aseyan could not prove her rape claims, a Nigerian court said Ogunsanya could not also prove his own rape defamation claims. But ask Nigerian Twitter, “Ogunsanya has been exonerated so why is a media house reporting it”?
