Two groups can't use credit cards: the 1.4 billion unbanked people around the world, and AI agents calling APIs. Neither can pass KYC. Neither has a bank account. But both can hold a Bitcoin Lightning wallet. Last week I added Lightning to @python_starter - any Python dev or vibe coder can now ship a Flask web app payable by both. Check out the video demo to see the Lightning payment process in action:

All it takes is for one of the major rating agencies to downgrade the UK from double A and it could trigger an economic crisis. (This is what happened to Greece in 2010). Everything was fine for years and years. Until it wasn't. youtu.be/NO7NTYtOhSk?si=-nKz… Via @PeterMcCormack @RossjournoClark

At some point there has to be an "emperor has no clothes" moment. Why, when we are in the middle of a boom in Artificial Intelligence, which is supposed to transform the way we do nearly everything, is there no tangible increase in productivity across the economy? Surely, if the claims for AI were even nearly true it would by now be showing up in the statistics for Total Factor Productivity (TFP) published by the San Francisco Fed. ✍️ Ross Clark Article | spectator.com/article/ai-isn… | @RossjournoClark

Fully agree with this tweet from Muhammad:
I don’t understand what those protesters aim to accomplish! If Mamdani hangs a Sinwar poster at city hall, then what? What impact would that have? Was Nelson Mandela a “sellout” for acknowledging the suffering white Afrikaaners endured in concentration camps in the 2nd Boer War? Was Mandela a “traitor” for saying Afrikaners as a collective group were not put "in the accused dock" or held collectively guilty for the sins of apartheid? Attending a vigil for Israelis & Palestinians doesn’t mean capitulating, throwing Gaza under the bus, drawing false symmetries or covering up the genocide! Mamdani is still consistently speaking up about Israel's crimes & atrocities, & is trying to build a broad coalition to do something about those crimes. In coalition building, there's a difference between a comrade (with whom you agree 100%) & an ally (with whom you may agree on one or two issues & work together towards them). Saying "I would only work with comrades who fully agree with me" is the recipe for dooming your movement to remaining a tiny ineffective minority. The goal is to unite the many against the few, not the few against the many.

One of the most exciting projects on the Bitcoin Lightning network. Practically overnight changed a whole country to accepting Bitcoin by default.

Don’t reuse addresses 🙏
Replying to @n3ocortex
Address reuse accounts for 4.33M BTC: the address has already spent, so its key is public. Moving those coins to a fresh address ends the exposure. The other 1.94M BTC are exposed by script type: 1.71M in P2PK, of which 1.10M is attributed to Satoshi, and 222K in Taproot. 2/6

My podcast this week is republishing my first talk on The Bitcoin Standard, at its 2018 launch, which was held in Vienna, fittingly enough.

This is absolute bullshit. After October 7th the entire world stood in solidarity with Israel. They painted the Brandenburg Gate, Eiffel Tower and Empire State in Israeli colors. But we squandered that sympathy by committing the worst crimes imaginable.
Even as a scholar of antisemitism, I can't wrap my head around how the worst massacre since the Holocaust didn't earn Jews any sympathy or solidarity, only int'l scorn that began while bodies were still warm on October 7. Now, 3yrs later, nowhere in the world is safe for Jews.

The most bullish thing about bitcoin is that its volatility is declining. The bigger it gets, the lower the volatility, and the more investable it becomes for capital allocators.

everything was security by obscurity. the veil has been lifted.
The end of software secrecy is almost upon us. The death of closed source, and the final triumph of open source. I should have realized this a few months ago when I successfully decompiled the game of Firefighter from an ancient DOS shareware binary. My robot friend was able to tell it had been written in Borland Pascal from looking at the data layout; it gave me back very readable Pascal code with sensibly chosen function and variable names. I transpiled it to Rust and now ship it as part of my heritage games collection. The thing is, I thought of this as a fun stunt but didn't have any confidence that the technique would scale up to large, real programs. I have since learned that people are now doing this sort of thing with entire AAA games, which are among the most complex software artifacts ever to be shipped as a binary. If they can be decompiled, anything can be. This has implications. Massive implications. We need to think about what the world is like when, in general, there is no longer a secrecy moat around almost any software at all. 1/2

I think I'm burning out. I've struggled with my family over Bitcoin for years. Out of our 5 children and 5 spouses; only one of them ever listened to me and bought Bitcoin. He entered at $20k. As an aside, his neighbor is a former European tech entrepreneur. He knows a lot. He makes sure you know it. The 3 of us were talking years ago during that time about Bitcoin. The neighbor proceeded to lecture us on how Bitcoin didn't have the use cases other coins did. In particular Etherium. I never forgot it. Today he lectured me on something unrelated and I just lost it, and said, "Hey! Did you ever listen to me and buy some Bitcoin when we were talking; it was around $20k?" And of course he already had a comeback. "No. But it use to be over $100k, didn't it?" I'm trying to think of the point of this story. Perhaps it's that the smartest people are just too smart for Bitcoin. Or that people who have missed the boat will never admit it. Or that some people will always be waiting for the perfect entry point. Just buy the fucking Bitcoin.

Why do we live in a world where the Chancellor of the Exchequer is so gleefully ignorant that he thinks it is possible to have a 'bitcoin account'. @JohnHealey_MP many of those in the Bitcoin industry would be delighted to enlighten you. Just ask.
UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Healey, uses “with a bitcoin account” as a derogatory term 🙄 A depressing insight into his ignorance

The settlers are a tool used by the Israeli state to "project power" and make life unbearable for Palestinians across the West Bank. The ultimate goal is expel and ethnically cleanse Palestinians from this territory.

The red states are turning pro-Palestinian.
Tonight at Gillette Stadium, Zach Bryan, one of the biggest country music artists in the world, wore a Free Palestine shirt onstage. Gillette Stadium is owned by Robert Kraft, who pushed Ed Sheeran and his promoter to drop Macklemore from his tour. Bryan isn’t just a major country artist. He is one of the biggest live draws in music, filling stadiums across the United States and in major cities around the world. Bryan served eight years on active duty in the US Navy and served overseas in Bahrain and Djibouti. Members of Bryan’s band also wore shirts supporting the Palestinian cause, including his drummer, who wore a jersey honoring the memory of Hind Rajab. Zach Bryan has a second show at Gillette Stadium tomorrow, Saturday night.
