Good for Nvidia’s board for doing an investigation. But Jensen’s behavior is only half the story.
The biggest problem remains unaddressed: the Department of Commerce has enacted policies—at the encouragement of Jensen, and which the MSS reportedly sought as well—that allow China to continue to access the most advanced Nvidia chips, including via Megaspeed. @CommerceGov leadership knew that Jensen was sleeping with a Chinese spy and that Megaspeed was a Chinese cutout, but still actively opposed any policies to tighten export controls on Nvidia chips. Why?
Commerce could have blocked chip shipments to Megaspeed the moment it found out that it was run by a Chinese spy, but it did not. Commerce has also refused to enforce regulations—which ironically remain on the books—that would require exporters to apply for a license to ship large numbers of AI chips to untrusted entities in many countries, which would prevent China from using shell companies like Megaspeed to buy controlled chips. And Commerce has done nothing to cut off China’s remote access of controlled chips, or its ability to buy controlled chips in the United States.
Why is Commerce protecting Jensen and supporting his preferred policies even though it has known for months that Jensen was sleeping with a Chinese spy? Why is it STILL doing so?
Obviously Nvidia needs to take significant steps in its operations, security, and policy advocacy to ensure it takes national security concerns more seriously. But it is even more important that the Department of Commerce tighten up export controls to prevent things like this from ever happening again. It is utterly baffling that despite being privy to this information for months, they have not taken even the most basic actions to protect the country, such as cutting off a company that is literally run by Chinese spies from buying AI chips.
By the way, as of this writing, Nvidia STILL lists Megaspeed as a “regional cloud partner” on its website.

Confirmed --this really happened. They were not authorized to do it and the purpose is unclear.
Let this sink in: ICE agents reportedly blocked the emergency entrance of a Los Angeles hospital for TWO HOURS, forcing ambulances carrying people who needed emergency care to go elsewhere.
This isn’t law enforcement. This is a reckless abuse of power that put innocent people’s lives at risk.
An ambulance entrance is not a political battleground. A hospital emergency room is not an immigration checkpoint.
And federal agents do not get to hold an entire community’s access to emergency medical care hostage.
Imagine being in an ambulance, fighting for your life, only to be diverted because federal agents decided their operation mattered more than emergency access.
Where is the humanity? Where is the accountability? And where is the line that these agents are no longer allowed to cross?
You cannot claim to be protecting America while putting Americans’ lives in danger.
This isn’t making America great. It’s making America cruel. And anyone defending this should be ashamed.

🇫🇷 Mélenchon would be funny if he weren’t a real presidential candidate.
With France’s debt at 120% of GDP, his programme promises an earlier retirement age and a shorter working week.
It also promises price controls and capital controls.
If implemented, it would trigger France’s worst economic collapse since the Second World War.
A recent poll puts him at 43% among 18–24-year-olds.
The fact that so many young people support him reveals a profound lack of financial education in France.
That is my biggest concern.
Hard to come up with a worse manifesto for France than lowering the retirement age, phasing out nuclear power and collapsing the EU but he managed.

The story keeps getting crazier. To recap everything that has been reported so far:
- The US intelligence community discovered that Jensen Huang, the CEO of the largest company in the world, was sleeping with Alice Huang, a Chinese spy and an executive at Megaspeed. (FT)
- Multiple independent investigations have concluded that Megaspeed is likely a Chinese cutout, which helps Chinese companies access AI chips or circumvent export controls. (NYT and Bloomberg)
- The US intelligence community also concluded that Alice Huang’s goal was to convince Jensen to lobby the U.S. government to loosen export controls on advanced AI chips. (NYT)
- The intelligence community relayed this information to “a small group of top US government officials” earlier this year. (FT)
- Over the last year, Jensen Huang has repeatedly lobbied the U.S. government to loosen export controls on advanced chips. @BISgov has done so, not only by permitting the export of H200 chips to China, but also not enforcing export controls that would have required a license for exports of the most advanced Blackwell chips to Megaspeed and Southeast Asia.
- Although @CommerceGov leadership was presumably briefed on this information by the U.S. intelligence community, @BISgov has taken no actions to tighten controls on Megaspeed or Southeast Asia.
- Megaspeed remains a preferred cloud partner of Nvidia, and continues to receive Nvidia Blackwell chips despite employing a Chinese spy who reportedly is romantically engaged with the CEO of Nvidia.
- Tens of billions of dollars worth of AI chips have been exported to Southeast Asia this year alone, and Malaysia and Singapore are now two of the four largest importers of AI chips in the world.
What is going on here??? We need answers. The question of who gets the most advanced AI chips in the world is literally the defining strategic question of our time. And not only does it seem like the MSS may be directly influencing the debate on export controls in the United States, but also @CommerceGov is refusing to listen to the warnings of the IC on this issue. What is a POSSIBLE good explanation for why Megaspeed is still receiving chips? Why is there not a license requirement for AI chip shipments to all of Southeast Asia? This is beyond strange at this point.
The fallout from this story will be massive. Obviously, the motivations underpinning Nvidia’s policy views opposing export controls must now all be questioned. But also, how did @BISgov sit on this information and has still taken no actions? We need answers.
US intelligence agencies believe @Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang had romantic relationship with alleged Chinese spy

Kushner and Witkoff are not only negotiating with things they do not own or control, they are also negotiating against longstanding Trump administration policy to get Europe to wean itself off of its Russian energy dependence. Fun fact: the original draft of the Graham bill was seen as too punishing toward European allies who had committed to the 2027 phase-out plan. Now here come Jared and Steve with a bright idea to increase that dependency and have the pipelines run through Ukraine. The German insurance industry will absolutely love that. As WSJ notes, this ludicrous proposal faces "resistance" in Europe. Stupidity, among other things, is on the ballot this week. wsj.com/world/europe/u-s-pus…

One of the biggest question that @RepMikeLevin and his colleagues will need to answer is how direct (and presumably unsanctioned by USG?) contact between Musk and Putin is compatible with Musk holding high-level security clearances for his work for the Pentagon.
Trump eases sanctions on Russia and begins buying Russian diesel. Days later, Musk restricts Starlink service in Ukraine, disrupting its military operations and its ability to defend itself.
And now we’re learning directly from Putin that Russia has been in contact with Musk.
How on earth did we get to this point? How is it possible that Musk can disrupt an American ally’s military operations whenever he chooses, maintain a clear line to the Kremlin, and face zero accountability to the American people or the U.S. government?
I want to know what Musk has been discussing with Russian officials, whether those conversations had anything to do with the Starlink disruptions, and what the Trump Administration knew.

I have finally cracked the mystery of Indian hate.
For decades, conversations about race in America have gone like this. Liberals accuse conservatives of being racists, conservatives respond that they have non-racist reasons for their opinions.
"No, I don't hate Mexicans, it's about the rule of law."
"No, having more police isn't racist, in fact it helps black people the most."
You can make an arguable case in each instance that conservatives had a point. This was our dialectic.
Then the Indian came along. He's everything that conservatives have ever said they wanted in an immigrant: law-abiding, high-earning, family-oriented, legal, English-speaking, no terrorism or illiberal attitude.
Here was an ultimate test that would show whether conservative opinions were ever based in reason.
Conservatives not only failed to embrace Indians. They reacted with a fury to their existence that made all their previous prejudices look mundane.
Imagine a woman who is attracted to toxic men but says she wants a nice guy. When she gets a nice guy who checks all the boxes, she hates him more than anyone else because he exposes her as engaging in self-delusion. His existence attacks her very identity.
That's conservatives and Indians.
The right wanted to believe that they had a political ideology that could appeal to smart, decent people. The conservative intellectual was always reverse engineering justifications to flatter the prejudices of chuds. Again, on most issues there was a plausibility to the arguments being made.
Indians have exposed how fake the entire thing was. Conservative politics on a mass scale was rooted in stupidity and racism the whole time. Political scientists knew this already, but it's now become too glaringly obvious to deny, even for uninformed rightists themselves. There is nothing left for conservatives to do but give up on reason and embrace racial hate as their organizing principle.
We should thank Indian immigrants, among all the other things they do, for providing this clarity. richardhanania.com/p/conserv…

Similarly with the Baltics, they can never make their mind up about whether we are puppets of Washington/Brussels/NATO or leading them all into confrontation with Moscow.
Huh. It’s as if everyone has agency and smaller countries are willing to always stand firm on their support for a rules-based world.
