In less than a month custom cover crop season will start. Very fortunate to have the business blossom from its start last year. Big thanks to my customers and my industry partners @danbahej
Reasons why we run Crustbuster drills
1-Row units are just like a planter row unit with the parallel linkage arms
2-Got narrow bridges and roads? So do we and that’s why we went with the front fold narrow transport
3-Easy to work on row units because they fold up to transport
Sold! It’s even staying in eastern Iowa to grow another cover crop seeding business, now onto the rebuild!
Key goals that I set out when starting our cover crop seed and application business.
Goal 1- Never turn a job down in year 1
Goal 2- Build your application customer base to 20 customers
Goal 3- Work with customers to get 20%- 30% of their acres farmed using cover crops

When it comes to right sizing equipment for a service based business like seeding cover crops, what should be the key metrics I should be accounting for and is there a cut line when bigger isn’t always better?
Here is the list I have thus far:
-Efficiency actual running acres/hour or acres/day
- Price of upgrade
- Return: profit or a percent on return
- Labor or man hours
- Projected growth
- Days/season to complete work
- Cost of repair

The record highs for Cedar Rapids, IA & Dubuque, IA for May 12th have been broken. These records were originally set in 1896, 126 years ago.
