Fantastic album @JasonIsbell ! So many great lyrics and the band sounds unbelievable. “She got so tired of putting out fires, she just laid down in the flames.” #Weathervanes

79 years ago today, the Allied Forces stormed the beaches of Normandy. We will never forget the sacrifices of those who began the freeing of Europe from the Nazi regime on #DDay. Their legacy and efforts paved the way for our present freedom and way of life.

#OTD in 1964, NASA's SR-71 Blackbird made its 1st flight. The SR-71 was designed to cruise at Mach 3.2 and at altitudes up to 85,000 ft, making it ideal for high-speed, high-altitude @NASAaero research. Learn more about NASA's research with the SR-71: go.nasa.gov/3uRWTze

#OTD in 1941, 3 sailors met for a drink at a bar in Pearl Harbor. Clifford Olds (right), was on board USS West Virginia when it sank the next morning. When salvage workers found his remains months later, a marked calendar revealed he had lived for 16 days trapped within the ship.

I still think this is such an important reminder of the sacrifice of others. Veteran Harry Billinge sums it up perfectly... and he IS a hero #LestWeForget #DDay

Today, 77 years ago, thousands of Allied Forces took an incredibly fearless step to save the world. Good triumphed over evil in that devastating conflict. Many of those heroes paid the ultimate sacrifice to secure the freedoms we enjoy today. The greatest generation. 🇺🇲🇬🇧🇨🇦

“And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them & said, Fear not: for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.” That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.

“‘Lights, please.’ For half a century, it’s been one of the most significant phrases in American Christianity. A prelude to something sacred in an unlikely place: the Gospel of Luke, King James translation, as recited by Linus van Pelt.” —@CaitlinPacific theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…
