This is beyond parody. Natural England is funded by you, the taxpayer. They are unelected and completely unaccountable. They have the power to allocate areas of "outstanding natural beauty". By designating an area as having “natural beauty”, they can make it impossible to receive planning permission. Just recently, they designated a field just outside a train station as an AONB. (No homes can be built there now). And in a bizarre move, they've decided that part of the M25 is an area of "outstanding natural" beauty (it’s man made). This is a complete joke. You pay for this. We must ABOLISH them. Why do we keep funding them?

Problem, meet solution. Taxes are already at record highs. The Chancellor must instead tackle his out-of-control welfare spending.

We will keep getting poorer until this line starts going up again.
Electricity production is the best metric for the true strength of any large-scale economy imo

HOW DO WE STOP THE BOATS? I get asked this question constantly. “Send in the Navy!” “Turn the boats around!” “Put more patrols in the Channel!” My opinion is different. Having spent weeks on the ground in France, watching this unfold with my own eyes, I believe the answer is far simpler. France has played an absolute blinder. Conditions in the migrant camps are appalling. Filthy, overcrowded slums that make France look like somewhere nobody wants to stay and Britain look like the land of opportunity. Clever, when you think about it. Then comes the next stage. Buses transporting migrants, gendarmes walking groups towards the beaches like they’re on a school trip, and French vessels accompanying boats across the Channel until British authorities take over. I’ve documented enough of this to form my own conclusions. So here’s what I would do. Stop handing France millions. We’re paying for a system that clearly isn’t delivering. Detain everyone arriving illegally, Identify, photograph and document every arrival. Return every person to France Invoice France for the costs. Yes, I know they probably wouldn’t pay. End the perception that arriving illegally guarantees accommodation, financial support and a permanent future in Britain. Make the journey pointless, and you destroy the smugglers’ business model. People are paying thousands because they believe reaching British shores is the finish line. Remove that incentive and why would they keep handing their money to criminal gangs? I believe crossings could fall dramatically within weeks if that message became a reality. No Navy warships required. No dangerous confrontations at sea. Just a government with the backbone to enforce its borders. It is not racist to believe your country should control who enters it. It is not racist to demand that immigration laws are enforced. And it is certainly not racist to believe that the British people and their interests should come first. I’ve watched this operation from the beaches, the camps and the water. Throwing more money at France isn’t my answer. Remove the incentive. Enforce the law. Break the business model. It’s time to put Britain first.

This is a big part of why firms are reluctant to take on staff. Anyone with ADHD qualifies as disabled under the Equality Act, which means there is no upper limit on the compensation they can claim if they are dismissed.

This misunderstands incentive effects. Someone with a £2m house who downsizes to a £1m house will, under the Tories' new IHT policy, *increase* their estate's IHT by £400k. A powerful incentive not to downsize.
Nonsense on stilts! The biggest block to downsizing - which is actually relatively rare amongst older homeowners - is Stamp Duty, which we have promised to scrap on a home. And to help younger buyers we will cut the regulations which add up to £50,000 to the cost of a new home.

Under a Restore Britain Government, patients who miss an NHS appointment (GP, specialist, diagnostic or treatment) without an evidenced reason will receive a financial penalty. If you cannot attend, cancel - give somebody else the opportunity to be seen. It's basic decency.

The more I travel the world, the more I appreciate the great British pint of bitter. Excellent article on the subject in @TheCriticMag. "Only 8 per cent of beer sold in Britain now comes from a handpump. It baffles me that a beer style which is so satisfying and accessible should be unpopular but most people seem to prefer pseudo-Euro lagers."

Martin Lewis has asked the public for simple, inexpensive and broadly uncontroversial changes that could make Britain work a little better. What better place to start than with putting an end to street scars? We can hold utility companies to account for scarring our streets with just a few changes to legislation that will: 🚧Make them put pavements back exactly as they found them and increase the fines for failing to do so. 🚧Require them to pay the full cost of restoring damaged pavements to the original standard. Find out more...
Please submit your small ideas for fixing Britain to the Small-Ideas.org website. It’s a new charitable initiative I’ve set up to try and make sure life’s potholes don’t get ignored. Working with two charities and a cross party panel to turn your ideas into policy then try and make it happen. Please share.

Dear Prime Minister Ambani, Please accept my humble apologies for not realizing that you are the real boss of India. Naturally, you would prefer to maintain your monopolistic exploitation of the great people of India, but would you nonetheless consider allowing Starlink to compete? There are many areas of India, as there are in all countries, with no Internet access, which denies children the opportunity for education and for small businesses the opportunity to sell their goods to a global market. Starlink would change their lives for the better. Thank you 🙏

This is why we can’t get anything done. The average age a young person buys their first home is 34. Natural England is blocking new homes from being built NEXT to a train station. Every 30 minutes a train leaves for Central London in Woldingham. You might be thinking “don’t new planning rules allow housebuilding within 500 metres of a train station?” You are *supposed* to be correct. But… Natural England hates giving young people a shot in life. So, they’ve come up with a loophole. They are now designating areas outside train stations as having “outstanding natural beauty" Now NO homes can be built here. We could abolish Natural England tomorrow and be done with this for GOOD. So, do you agree?

I have it on good authority that this one idiotic policy alone made it a lot harder to get a GP appointment, as GPs cut back their days to four, not five, because it was not worth working an extra day for 38p in every £ earned. I don’t doubt many other professions in that same earning zone will have done the same. It is a bonkers policy.
Earn £100,000 and the next pound is taxed at 62%. At £200,000 it's 47%. That's the personal allowance taper, set at £100k in 2010 and never raised. @DamianPudner on @UKLiveOnline today: the cliff edge has to go.

Law suits that cost hundreds of thousands are capped at £5000. Who pays the difference? YOU DO. Aarhus Convention stops us building vital infrastructure - with project after project blocked by lawsuit after lawsuit. And we all pay for the privilege! End this madness!
The Aarhus Convention lets mad activists delay power stations, roads, and reservoirs for years at a time. And if they lose in court, *our money* covers their legal costs. We must leave the Convention and make Britain a country where it's actually possible to build things again.

If we grant that @DanNeidle's figures here are broadly reasonable then, well, you have at least one tax cut that really would pay for itself and another (abolishing the £100K taper) that is both just and a no-brainer.

How's the latest politically imposed wage floor hike working out?
If you haven't read Badenoch's latest pamphlet, I don't blame you, but in it she launches an attack on the minimum wage. When so many people across Britain are struggling with the cost of living, it’s so tin eared. Same old Tories. They always want working people worse off.

Natural England loves to BLOCK, DELAY & BAN. Here are their top 10 “achievements”. 1️⃣ Became the second organisation to ban kite-flying. After the Taliban. 2️⃣ Spent over ONE THOUSAND DAYS blocking 20,000 news homes, because it could damage the habitat of a snail. 3️⃣ Tried to cull 75% of the Dartmoor ponies because of grazing concerns. 4️⃣ Blocked a theme park in London that would have employed 27,000 people & featured Europe’s largest indoor water park. 5️⃣ Blocked 74 local planning authorities from granting permission for new homes until they could achieve “nutrient neutrality”. 6️⃣ OBJECTED to the construction of its own office in Cornwall. 7️⃣ DELAYED & OBSTRUCTED the construction of Hinkley Point C, which would give Britain cheap, secure & reliable energy. 8️⃣ Shut down a paintballing centre in Exeter that had been operating for over a decade. 9️⃣ Changed the rules about bats to STOP the construction of a dual carriageway near Norwich. 🔟 And who could forget the bat tunnel. Their decisions mean that the taxpayer spends £330,000 to protect ONE BAT. LFG has relentlessly demanded Natural England’s ABOLITION. The Conservatives have now committed to our demand to abolish Natural England. What matters now is action. The Gov must ABOLISH Natural England.
We Conservatives will abolish Natural England and the Environment Agency. Far too much taxpayers’ money is being wasted on dysfunctional quangos that deliver poor results. Natural England stopped 160,000 homes from being built through nutrient neutrality regulations, yet imposed a £700 million ‘fish disco’ at Hinkley Point C that will save just one salmon every 12 years… The Environment Agency has been able to step back from its flood prevention work despite continuing to receive taxpayers’ money to carry it out. Madness! We Conservatives will abolish them because of their track record of red tape, waste and dysfunction.
