Actions have consequences: inciting hatred & division has consequences, putting one’s personal agenda over duty & others’ wellbeing has consequences Removing @realDonaldTrump from office doesn’t compensate for the damage done, it is a just, moral & necessary act A new era begins

Looking forward to listening today to my favourite jazz band, the outstanding @KlazzBrothers @ the Köln Philaharmonie. Thanks to my parents in law!

1/3 In Carl Sagan’s novel “Contact” the world needed to decide who should represent humanity and have the opportunity to possibly meet with a higher extra-terrestrial intelligence.
1
2/3 There were arguments in favour of artists, poets and others, but a scientist who understood maths, the universal language of science, was instead selected. If Leonardo Da Vinci had lived then, we could have combined them all into one.

3/3 Today 500 years ago, the person who best represents humanity’s highest talents and aspirations died. His art, science and above all his insatiable thirst for applied knowledge lives on. #Leonardo500

I love the convenience of instantly downloading a book or having it delivered to my door but there is something these modern day luxuries cannot do: help me discover something I wasn’t looking for by walking the aisles. I always enjoy walking the aisles of 222 year old @Hatchards

Glad to be back at #Astrofest2019. Interesting speakers, fascinating topics and a wide array of equipment and optical instruments.

Dignified posture of @JeffBezos who chose not to compromise his integrity by falling victim to blackmail and instead chose to denounce those who intended to blackmail him and publicly accept responsibility for his actions. #integrity
1/2 Interesting to see that this year, again, the agenda of the #WEF2019 in #Davos is focusing on the effects and not on the causes. The current global economic system is creating an #inequality divide that cannot be easily breached.
1
2/2 Inequality, not poverty, will be the main driver of discontent in both developed and developing nations. I wonder when will the topic of the #WEF be #Inequality, this year’s is #Globalisation 4.0????
Artificial Intelligence is increasingly providing more useful insights for decision making, from detecting correlations and patterns to identifying hidden cause and effect relationships. How long will it take before we fully entrust them with a Corporate-level responsibility?
We are approaching an era where we may find ourselves sharing the planet, for the first time in 2 million years, with entities (AI based) more intelligent than ourselves.
2
The issue of silicon conscience inevitably arises in these scenarios hoping these entities treat us better than we treat the less intelligent life forms that had the misfortune to share the world with us. #singularity #AI #evolution

Just attended a lecture on Applied History, the idea that the past is embedded in the present and can teach us valuable lessons for today’s challenges.
3
It struck me that history has been particularly ineffective at predicting events based on the historical parallels of today’s circumstances. How can history go beyond after the fact rationalisation of past events?
