This whole capacity debate simplified is a question of forecasting how many chips need to go into how many computers and how much electricity we need to power them. The reason i am optimistic is that we can’t forecast how AI and technology evolves that well. Back in 99, we actually forecasted the global PC units in 2015 pretty accurately. But translating to chips, we didnt consider smartphones and as a result were off by an order of magnitude. Same can be said for AI, at the rate of development, Robotics and physical intelligence and whatever wave of new compute takes shape 5 years from now can wildly change.
