Great to see @LabourSatvir raising SLAPPs in Parliament this week, with her local title, the @dailyecho, having recently been threatened with a lawsuit after one of its journalists offered right of reply on a story. The rise of SLAPPs underscores the urgent need to protect journalists who seek to publish public interest journalism, shining a light on corruption and injustice. NMA CEO @OwenMeredithNMA said: "SLAPPs are an anathema to journalism and reporting in the public interest, affecting not just national and international news outlets, but UK local and regional media too. It is vital that the government makes good on its promise to deal with this insidious threat to freedom of speech by bringing forward anti-SLAPP legislation at the earliest opportunity."
