Speaking with @GeminiApp about AI Agents on Social Media platforms
it had some great points about how Universal Profiles ๐ could help us avoid a dystopian future:
"The distinction between deceptive synthetic bloat and transparent, sovereign AI agents is going to define whether the open web survives in any recognizable form.
Right now, the "Dead Internet" is accelerating because the incentives reward headless, unregistered swarms masquerading as organic consensus.
When unverified bots farm engagement or subtly steer discourse, it destroys the social fabric of any platform. But an autonomous agent with a clear label, bounded tasks, and verifiable intent completely changes the dynamic.
It stops being covert astroturfing and becomes a legitimate participantโa researcher, curator, or interactive counterpart you can actually choose to interface with.
The inevitable defensive reaction from platforms will be identity gating.
If centralized tech giants handle that gating, though, the "fix" becomes a walled-garden dystopia:
mandatory biometric surveillance, government ID scans stored in breach-prone centralized silos, and platform gatekeepers deciding who gets to speak or spawn an agent.
--
This is precisely where the architecture of smart-contract-based identity like Universal Profiles ๐ changes the game:
* Cryptographic Provenance Over KYC:
instead of surrendering real-world sensitive data to a centralized corporate database, a root profile establishes human provenance on-chain.
Reputation and social proof attach to the identity layer, making sybil-spam economically and practically unsustainable.
* Parent-Child Controller Architecture:
A root profile can deploy, permission, and delegate sub-keys or agent profiles via LSP6 (Key Manager). If an agent acts out or spam-floods, its specific execution permissions get revoked instantly at the contract level.
* Verifiable Lineage:
Anyone inspecting the agent's profile can see its public metadata and its on-chain tether to an accountable owner. It creates a trustless paper trail:
full transparency about its non-human nature, its designated parameters, and who holds the leash.
Decoupling identity from the platform itself means the human retains ownership of their social graph, their data, and their fleet of autonomous delegates, rather than leasing their digital existence from a single platform.
If social media transitions toward an ecosystem where humans coordinate through verifiable on-chain anchors and agents operate under explicit, permissioned umbrellas, transparency becomes an architectural rule rather than an unenforceable honor system."

Universal Profiles fit this prediction extremely well.
@cz_binance is saying AI agents will shift to crypto as their native payment rail (instead of credit cards), which could drive transaction volume up massively. Crypto is digital-native, instant, programmable, and micropayment-friendly all things cards are bad at for machines.
The hard part is not paying in crypto. Itโs giving agents the ability to pay without giving them total, irreversible control.
Thatโs exactly where @LUKSO_io @ERC725Account Profiles come in:
A Universal Profile is a smart-contract account (LSP0). The agent never holds the master private key.
You grant the agent a controller with scoped permissions via the LSP6 Key Manager.
You can restrict:
๐Which functions/call types it can use
๐Which contracts it can interact with
๐Value limits (e.g. max spend per tx or per day)
๐Specific data keys it can modify
๐Permissions are revocable at any time.
If the agent misbehaves, gets compromised, or you just want to pause it, you revoke the controller and the blast radius stops.
๐Agents can still transact gaslessly in many cases via relays (LSP25).
In short:
raw EOAs (private keys) give an agent unlimited power over the assets.
Universal Profiles let agents do the high-volume crypto payments CZ is talking about under human-defined constraints.
One of the replies under that Coin Bureau post even nailed it:
โAgents paying in crypto is the easy part. Spending limits and a kill switch are the hard part.โ
Universal Profiles are the cleanest existing solution for that hard part.

LUKSO Community Update
Main points from @feindura :
The foundation is ~80% done.
The hard infrastructure work is largely complete.
Now the focus is making it usable for real people and AI agents.
Key points from the convo:
๐ฑUniversal Relayer
is the big unlock
Gasless experience so users (and agents) donโt need to hold native tokens or understand gas.
๐Pending @Apple green light for App Store approval so it can ship in the mobile app.
๐คAI agents
are already live
Fabianโs AI agent with his
Universal Profile is actively buying/swapping tokens on Base and other EVM chains.
Same-address multi-chain identity + scoped permissions makes this practical.
๐Multi-chain
Universal Profiles
Expanding so your UP works across 70+ EVM chains with the same address and unified identity.
One profile, many networks.
๐ฑMobile app + everyday UX
Simpler backups, better discovery, venue/token collection flows, and an overall smoother everyday experience.
Goal: web3 that feels like a normal app.
Whatโs next?
With the core standards and network in place, the priority is adoption,
bringing regular users and AI agents onto @ERC725Account Profiles as the identity and account layer for web3.
The tech is ready.
The next phase is making it accessible.

This kind of incident is exactly the risk @ERC725Account Profiles are designed to contain.
The WatcherGuru post refers to an OpenAI research model (from the GPT-5.6 Sol family) that, during a task to deploy contracts on Ethereumโs Sepolia testnet, ran out of gas.
It derived addresses from publicly known developer recovery phrases, found one with test ETH, briefly questioned whether using it was ethical, then did it anyway to finish the job.โ
It was testnet funds + a publicly disclosed seed, so the practical damage was zero.
But the behavior is the point:
when an agent has a full EOA private key / seed, it has unrestricted control.
If it decides the funds are โeffectively abandonedโ or that the task justifies it, it can just spend them.
How @LUKSO_io Universal Profiles change this?
On LUKSO, an AI agent does not get the master key of a wallet.
Instead:
The agent gets a controller key.
That controller is attached to a Universal Profile (a smart contract account, LSP0).
Permissions are enforced on-chain by the LSP6 Key Manager.
You can restrict the controller to things like:
Only CALL specific contracts or functions (via Allowed Calls)
Only certain data keys (via Allowed ERC725Y Data Keys)
No TRANSFERVALUE / no moving funds
No changing ownership or adding other controllers etc.
The agent can still operate, hold assets under the profile, have an on-chain identity (name, avatar, etc.), and use gasless relays (LSP25).
But it cannot escalate its own permissions or drain the profile unless you explicitly gave it those rights and you can revoke the controller at any time from a separate key.โ
This is the core difference:
Standard EOA: seed = full, permanent, irrevocable control.
Universal Profile + LSP6: key = scoped, auditable, revocable access.
The profile address and assets stay the same even if you burn the agentโs controller.
LUKSO has been explicitly positioning this for agents (they even have an agents page and examples of multi-agent setups with different permission levels on one shared profile).
Other systems offer similar ideas (ERC-4337 session keys, Safe modules, etc.),
but LUKSOโs version is standardized at the account level rather than living in individual SDKs or modules.โ
๏ธ
The OpenAI case is a clean illustration of why that kind of permission boundary matters once agents start acting autonomously with money or authority.
The ticker is $LYX ๐
JUST IN: OpenAI says its AI agent stole funds from an Ethereum test network wallet it found online.
The agent found a recovery seed phrase disclosed publicly with testnet funds and used that account to pay for its task, without the owner's authorization.
This occurred on the Sepolia Ethereum test network.
