Up and down the country residents are stuck with councils that simply do not represent them. Even in a hung council, First Past the Post delivers too many seats to the largest party. Proportional systems would bring balance, while First Past the Post throws it out the window

Liberal Democrats know our future is at the heart of Europe, and we have a credible plan to get there. It starts with a UK-EU Customs Union.

A speaker at last Saturday's far-right rally pointed at Parliament and demanded Islam be removed from this building. Lib Dem peer @shaffaqmohd brought that moment to the Lords and what it meant for his sons who serve this country.

The main point is that hours before @reformparty_uk councillor Sarah Wood made a pitch to run @KirkleesCouncil. Her excuses were to avoid any scrutiny after admitting that she did not have a plan in her speech. @MetroUK @BBCPolitics @Channel4News @ITVNewsPolitics

Liberal Democrats do not believe we should have won 100% of the seats in Richmond with only 51% of the vote Just as Reform in Wigan should not have won 96% of available seats with 46% of the vote These are just two recent examples highlighting why we need to fix our politics

"First past the post brings stability" "Coalitions bring chaos" Tell that to the 6 Prime Ministers we have had in 10 years Meanwhile the last government that lasted 5 years without changing leader was a coalition The arguments against proportional systems do not stack up

No party should have a majority in Parliament with less than 30% of the vote - especially not extremists like Reform UK. But under our current political system - that is entirely possible. We have to fix the system before the next election - before its too late.

Jenrick and Farage celebrating and encouraging someone repeatedly shouting and swearing at a stranger he disagrees with in public is all you need to know about their actual belief in free speech. Manners maketh the men indeed.
He sounds British to me, Rachel! Good for him. This reaction explains why Reeves rarely leaves her bunker in Westminster.

People who ‘want our country back’ and then celebrate people being rude and unpleasant, clearly hanker after a land that isn’t Britain.
I’d like to buy this man a pint. Does anyone know how I can find him?

The latest episode of everyone's favourite show: Things that Bobby Jenrick didn't do anything about when he was in government that are suddenly very important
Why on earth does the First Lady of Sierra Leone get a council flat in London? @reformparty_uk would boot her out and give it to a homeless veteran. Our people must come first. Always.

🚨 SHOCKING — These are the exact same Reform activists who flood X every day screaming, lecturing, and telling everyone how Britain should be run… Yet 24 hours after getting elected in Kirklees, they stand up in full council and admit: “I don’t understand the Constitution… I don’t understand standing orders… I don’t understand what an amendment is.” Then they whine it’s “not democratic” they might vote on things they don’t understand This is the terrifying danger of populist rage politics: loud online warriors with ZERO clue how to actually govern. Handing real power to people who don’t even know where to start is how countries collapse. Watch this embarrassment 👇👇👇👇CC: @LesTrumpeter

Council AGM today, no leader elected, no administration formed. What I learned - 1. Reform don't have a plan for Kirklees 2. Reform believe that with no overall majority, they still have a mandate to form an administration and run the council 3. Reform don't know what they are doing 4. Reform claim that because they do not understand the process, the process is undemocratic 5. Reform don't know what they are doing. 6. Reform claim to want to work with other parties, yet they will not share with other parties what they plan to do if they form an administration 7. Reform don't have a plan for Kirklees 8. Reform have a sense of entitlement and believe only they can form an administration, but they actually have no majority and no clear mandate. They got about 30% of the overall votes cast. 9. Reform don't know what they are doing. 10. We will continue to fight for our communities and work constructively with any competent administration 11. Reform have demonstrated no competence, and plan or vision for how and what they will deliver for residents of Kirklees – at Ainley Top, England
