They cannot possibly have “100% confirmed” it’s even human-made, much less Noah’s actual Ark.

The anthropomorphization in this NYT piece is so wild. It ascribes agency, motivation, and blame to software.
These are botnets scanning for exploits, by design. This is has existed for decades. The difference is a big corporation is doing it, and deflecting responsibility.

I don't mean to sound arrogant by saying this, but I just think it is just true that if people learned more neuroscience, and had a better idea how the human nervous system and brain actually works, then they would be better prepared to understand how machine intelligence is really not the same as human intelligence
For example, neural networks are sort of loosely inspired by cortex, but that's about it
I'm not trying to be a dick, but it's hard to have conversations on here sometimes because people's level of knowledge is just so low

ELON MUSK JUST EXPLAINED WHY HE DOESN’T TRUST SAM ALTMAN.
“I’m not a fan of Sam Altman.”
Musk argues that OpenAI was originally created as a nonprofit, open-source AI organization meant to serve the public.
But in his view, it eventually became an ~$800 billion for-profit company with closed-source AI.
His argument is simple:
“If you gave money to support one mission, then watched the organization move in the complete opposite direction, wouldn’t you question it?”
“That’s my issue, and I think it’s a legitimate one.”
Musk also claims Anthropic was created because some OpenAI founders lost trust in Altman.
His conclusion:
“Otherwise, Anthropic wouldn’t exist.”
That’s a serious claim.

Yann LeCun, Executive Chairman of AMI Labs, explains why LLMs are mostly retrieving human knowledge rather than thinking for themselves:
LeCun starts with why so many people misread what these systems are doing:
"I think there's a lot of confusion, really, because we tend to anthropomorphize systems that can reproduce certain human functions."
When an AI writes fluent answers, we assume there's a mind behind them. LeCun's view is that most of what we're seeing is something more familiar:
"LLMs, to some extent, except for a few domains, are mostly information retrieval systems. They can compress a lot of factual knowledge that has been previously produced by humans and can give easy access to it."
The key words are "previously produced by humans."
The knowledge in an LLM came from people. What the system adds is compression and easy access.
That puts LLMs in a long historical line:
"In a way, it's kind of a natural evolution of the printing press, the libraries, the Internet, and search engines. Right. It's just a more efficient way to access information."
@ylecun is clear about their value:
"LLMs are incredibly useful, there's no question about that. And they do amplify human intelligence, like computer technology going back to the 1940s."
He also allows that in a few areas, such as generating code and some types of mathematics, the capabilities seem to go beyond retrieval. But he notes what those areas share:
"It's still, to a large extent, domains where reasoning has to do with manipulating symbols."
That's where the retrieval framing shows its limits. If these systems were truly thinking for themselves, you'd expect that ability to carry over into the physical world. It hasn't:
"The problem is that why do we have systems that can pass the bar exam and win mathematics Olympiads, but we don't have domestic robots, we don't even have self driving cars."
Then comes his sharpest comparison:
"And we certainly do not have self driving cars that can teach themselves to drive in 20 hours of practice like any 17 year old. So we're missing something big still."

Sorry, but if Anthropic believes it is doing a slavery or a Holocaust, it must shut its operations down, not hire a philosopher to tell it best practices.
Beyond parody.
Philosophy is supposed to be radical, and philosophers are supposed to push the envelope. But that doesn't mean commercial companies have to hire them to inform business practices.
Its worth noting that Anthropic hired Lederman in July.

Calling it Noah’s Ark before confirming is a red flag 🚩
How can you trust an investigation when the people behind it already speak as though they’ve found the answer?
Every time I see a video about the supposed Noah’s Ark discovery, I hear the same language: “We’re standing on the Ark.” "We’re sending a machine down into the Ark.”
But has anyone actually confirmed it’s an ark, let alone Noah’s Ark? No!
That’s the problem. They’re calling it Noah’s Ark before they’ve established what the formation is.
Looking at their profiles, I can see why they hope it’s true. (And that's not a dig just an observation) But hope cannot be the conclusion of an investigation.
What do you make of the way it’s being presented?

I have run dozens of software teams. If someone gave me this report, I would fire every single person in IT, security, QA, and engineering management.
The layers of fuckups required to enable this are too numerous to be coincidental. They worked HARD to make this happen.

I agree with everything he said in this video.
One of my next podcast interviews is with a team that interviewed Edward Snowden last year. I’d love to do one with him to discuss what we see happening.
Snowden is a technical genius with exceptional hacking skills and a deep understanding of the intelligence systems and surveillance infrastructure he exposed.
He disclosed what governments do because their true intent isn’t to protect people. I was brought in to audit the technical operations of a company that intelligence agencies use for “lawful” intercept capabilities inside telecom networks soon after I left AOL in 1999.
If anyone can put us in touch, I’d be eternally grateful.
Everything we’re seeing in the name of child safety, AI gloom, national safety, public safety, fraud, and serious crime is so much more sinister than most people realise.
Yesterday was tough because investigating this takes a heavy toll. It’s depressing watching tech executives, government leaders and intelligence agencies collaborate against humanity’s best interests. All while their customers and partners support, and amplify their efforts.
Former and current CIA directors, station chiefs, NSA officials, State Department staff, Defense officials, and Israeli Secret Service personnel who protected the Israeli President and Prime Minister send me connection requests on LinkedIn, follow me, and send messages inviting me to meet up. They use the guise of mutual interest to lure me into personal meetings to manipulate me and extract information. Because of this targeted activity, I won’t travel to the US anytime soon, which hurts because it’s a home away from home. My youngest was born in San Francisco.
Despite all that and an indirect threat involving my life through LinkedIn messaging, and constant pressure, I’ll keep connecting dots to expose what’s happening. Their scare tactics fail, and their social engineering looks amateurish. But that’s not an invitation to up their antics. This is the first time I’ve said all this in public.

Von der Leyen is pushing under-13 social media bans and restricted accounts for under-15s. Macron wants AI brought into the same system. Spain is already tying age verification to the EU digital ID. Australia has gone to under-16.
The rules differ, but the direction is the same: digital ID becomes the plumbing for proving who you are before you can use more of the internet.
