business-focused physicians have completely lost the plot.
download your health data now before they find a way to make it even harder to access.
Incredibly, hospitals are now paying for AI companies to disrupt them. 🤦♂️
Patients linking their MyChart accounts to @OpenAI's ChatGPT rose more than 7,000% in a single month at 69-hospital @AdvocateHealth, its CIO Bobbie Byrne told @Becker’sHR.
Patients set this up themselves in ChatGPT, so that the AI can explain their lab results, scans, and doctors’ notes. You know, instead of one of Advocate's doctors.
To add insult to disruption, every time a patient asks ChatGPT a question, Advocate’s Epic system has to look up and send the records and pay for the computing resources that make that happen. AND — brace yourself — Federal law says Advocate can't charge patients, or their apps, for that access to the patient's own records.
So a health system is paying for a competitor’s access to its own patients’ records. The competitor takes away the followup visit, and the healthcare system pays for that to happen — both in lost revenue and in increased computing costs.

Was talking with a guy about what we get from our Whoop bracelets and he goes 'I'm not sure either, but I think it does help my health'
And some other guy just walks up and says 'Cope' and disappears

OpenEvidence partnered with Johns Hopkins to redesign medical school.
AI handles the knowledge, doctors keep the judgment.
Yeah, right.
That is what they said about the knowledge part years ago.
Knowledge was the doctor's moat, then it became free.
Judgment is next. Hey, that's just standard of care that we love so much, right?
Judgment is pattern recognition plus context, and context is more data.
The question is not whether doctors keep the judgment, it's how long until they don't.
Soon enough, human judgment will be malpractice.

we're releasing results from our frontier-beating data gathering algorithm
in biology, experiments are expensive, so the data we choose to train our world models make a big difference
Exploreon reaches the same sampling result as Opus 5.5 or Monte Carlo with 7x and 12x less data, respectively
companies have been pouring tens of billions of dollars into creating unique datasets specifically suited for world models of various types: from robotics firms putting cameras on people’s heads, to in vitro biology companies building automated labs to run assays on cells
Exploreon makes that feedback loop intelligent, even more intelligent than a frontier model

Reminder that your desire to "fix society" is almost entirely just personal resentment at the world for not giving you as much power and status as you think you deserve.
Also reminder that the modern Western world is more "fair" than any previous time or place in all of human history, such that by the time people reach their 30s the correlation between what they "deserve" and what they get is very close to 1.
If you fully digest this pill, relinquish trying to fix others and society instead focusing entirely on fixing yourself, you are like five years away from a truly exceptional life.
And now also might for the first time have enough competence and wisdom to be able to tinker with others and society without destroying them.
Wondering the same.
I wasn't aware Mathematicians are disliked so much.
Majority of people are not sympathizing with them. Why?

Tendinopathy rehab is not a pain free process...
Tendinopathy rehab is not a pain-free process...
Tendinopathy rehab is not a pain-free process, and these folks often need considerable load/strain.
Not all pain implies harm... especially in the tendon rehab world.
I work out in a gym that has a rehab center attached. I constantly hear, " Don't do it if it hurts...
I see middle-aged capable folks put on a leg extension with 20 lbs- move it easily x 10, then move on to something else... perhaps a farmer's carry with 5kg...
Many folks just aren't being loaded nearly enough. Some are... but it seems hit-or-miss.
Granted... This is only one gym... I'm not saying that this is what everyone does elsewhere...
Physicians will do this 100x

I'm wary to even tell my doctor that I've used AIs to diagnose symptoms and successfully mitigated problems. I feel like he'd resent me for it.

“Independent physicians will be better for patients”
The independent physicians:
If you want to understand why healthcare is so expensive, I'd start with a Supreme Court case about teeth whitening.
Around 2003, spas and small kiosks in North Carolina were offering teeth whitening for a fraction of what dentists charge.
So dentists complained to the state dental board. That dental board looks like this:
- 6 of 8 are practicing dentists, elected by other dentists
- 8 of the 10 who sat on the board during this period earned substantial fees from whitening
The board sent 47+ cease-and-desist letters, warning non-dentists that they're committing a crime by practicing dentistry without a license. The board also sent letters to mall operators, advising them to expel whitening kiosks.
All this worked! These kiosks shut down, prices stayed high, dentists stayed happy.
Regulatory capture like this exists all over in healthcare. What makes this case notable is that someone actually sued the NC dental board, in a case that went all the way to the supreme court.
In a 6-3 ruling, the SC ruled that if a board is run by those who participate in the market without proper supervision - that looks like a cartel, therefore, antitrust law applies.
I have to believe there are so many other potential cases like this in healthcare, just waiting to be pressed on. I'd love to see more of this.
