GEO Group's board gave themselves permission to buy back up to $1.25 billion of their own stock over the next few years. Our government is paying them for concentration camps and mass incarceration, and they're converting that into private shareholder payouts while people suffer. Private prison companies extract corporate profit directly from the deprivation of human liberty. These ghouls benefit financially when more people are detained for longer periods. The conditions in these facilities are degrading. Human rights organizations documented issues like poor healthcare, inadequate food and water, and forced labor for as little as $1 a day. Any funds being funneled into stock buybacks and corporate payouts should be spent on improving living conditions and medical care.
