Minimizing transmission as much as possible is our way out of the worst of this pandemic. Mask, vaccinate, open windows/doors, air purifiers where you can’t. Check out xlear and betadine nose sprays for another layer of protection!

Their findings suggest the ā€œneed for layered interventions to mitigate SARS-CoV-2 spread, especially within dense settings, such as congregate settings, and in settings where prolonged contact is likely, such as households with infected people.ā€ An important message to end 🧵

An inhaled Covid vaccine booster was more than 5-fold effective for inducing neutralizing antibodies at 28-days, and more durable at 1-year, than shots, vs Omicron BA.5 in a randomized trial thelancet.com/journals/lanin… @TheLancetInfDis

How to reduce airborne disease transmission during indoor gatherings Besides mask-wearing, "ventilation and break times are critical" in prevention. "Their impact would equal or exceed that of masking and moderate isolation of infected individuals." pnas.org/doi/full/10.1073/pn…

@united I am currently on a flight and the flight attendant claimed that I’m not allowed to use a portable air purifier. I see a PAPR on your prohibited list but not small air purifiers under 100W. Can you clarify?

@united here is a screenshot of your list. If you don’t allow such items for protecting immunocompromised flyers, does this mean we need to get a doctor’s note?

Filters installed just in time for visitors. I like having them pull ceiling air down, mixing the air better and being out of the way. Room for improvement in terms of aesthetics, but good enough for now.

Mandatory air cleaners in all school classrooms. Kudos to the South Korean government. And I'll bet they will purchase very good and right-sized systems. It's not rocket science, folks. They're just doin' it! koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=…

Never purchase the wrong size mask again! I am probably behind the times, but I just discovered the Fit Mask app on the App Store. This app (iOS only) measures the important facial dimensions for mask sizing.

My Godson is a struggling artist who drives a cab to make ends meet. For his birthday present I built this MIni-Mini #corsirosenthalbox. It uses PC fans and and 4- MERV 13 - 6X6X1 filters. Connects to a USB port. Should provide about 30 ACH in his cab.

Everyone thought I was a little crazy saying you could re-use N95's. I am glad to see @3MSafety be very clear about re-use! See their recommendation, but remember if it starts to lose fit(loose headbands, mask losing shape) you start to lose protection. 3m.com/3M/en_US/worker-healt…

So CDC says they looked at DIY as potentially cost-effective solution due to ā€œlow cost, ease of construction and ready availability compared with higher cost and limited availability of commercial HEPA air cleaners,ā€citing my own tests on this. (7/16) sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

A very important and informative thread about why the Omicron XBB.1.5 subvariant is now dominating in the Northeast US and is expected to spread. Please protect yourselves and others by wearing N95 masks. I am truly concerned about the #longCOVID wave that follows this infection.
The superior growth advantage of XBB.1.5 has been well-documented by many colleagues @JPWeiland @LongDesertTrain @EricTopol. Here I'll add some experimental data: 1) XBB.1.5 is equally immune evasive as XBB.1, but 2) XBB.1.5 has a much higher hACE2 binding affinity. 1/

Iota carrageenan nasal spray (Betadine Cold Defense is one example) has been shown to be highly effective at preventing Covid in a pilot study in health workers. It’s also safe and flavourless. Use it prior to exposure, or if symptoms develop. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3462…

According to research most infections start in the nasal cavity or the mouth. I haven't been able to get a clear picture of exact percentages yet, but a study with a similar product in India reduced infection rates 60% in HCW vs the placebo

A ventilation ā€œmandateā€ in all public spaces would be cheaper, easier to enforce, and (from a practical standpoint, as it asks nothing of individuals) more effective, than any mask mandate. Why do we keep disregarding this critical (and low cost/ low lift) layer?! šŸ¤”šŸ¤Æ
