🔥ADOPTION: Robinhood's CEO says people in 120 countries are using tokenized stocks as their ONLY way to access US equities. "They don't even have highly functional financial systems. This is really their only option." Robinhood Chain's tokenized stock volume has already surpassed $3 BILLION since going live in July.

You don’t realise how impressive this chart is until you look at the rest of Robinhood Chain. Most tokens have been getting absolutely wrecked on this pullback. $IF is still holding strong.

I'm joining Ethlabs @ethlabs_org, a new R&D lab to grow Ethereum and ETH. The network and the asset are entering a new age of adoption, and this is a shift we cannot miss. More capital is coming onchain, both institutional and retail, through the portals of DeFi, stablecoins, prediction markets, agents, and many other venues. I want a world where this capital powers greater wealth, where the system is transparent and verifiable, while value remains private and uncensorable. This is what Ethereum, with ETH at its centre, can offer better than anyone else. This is at hand, and we need to deliver on it. In recent years, as a core steward of Ethereum Protocol R&D, the need for a tighter loop between the protocol and product layers has become impossible for me to look away from. We'll work to ensure that the Ethereum platform meets the moment and grows to become the settlement layer for the global economy. This means, for me: • Improving blockspace quality and mainnet execution, with a faster Ethereum L1, the heartbeat of the network, and a stronger transaction supply chain. • Improving the free and secure flow of assets on the network, with seamless, unbreakable bridges and composability. • Being a technical partner to innovative products wishing to leverage Ethereum's unique properties with best-in-class user experience. • And delivering without compromise on Ethereum's core properties always, wherever our mission takes us. We're excited to get started and I could not be more grateful for the support we have received from our funders. I am reminded today that we are surrounded with immensely talented and incredibly supportive builders, core devs, allocators and investors, who all share the same passion and care for Ethereum. Ethereum is a special network, in a special ecosystem. Please reach out to chat and learn more, and let us know your interest in joining our mission with an email to [email protected]
Announcing Ethlabs: a non-profit R&D lab for Ethereum and ETH Our mission is to make Ethereum the settlement layer of the global economy. The internet became global because shared protocols created a common language between networks. Private systems remained useful, but bounded. Finance is approaching a similar moment. As value, assets, and markets become digital, the world needs shared settlement infrastructure. Ethereum is uniquely positioned to become that shared base layer, the neutral foundation on which users, institutions, and agents can transact without intermediation. What we believe: • We believe credible neutrality matters. Ten years of uptime and the lowest counterparty risk. Ground that cannot be pulled away by any one country, institution, company, or person. • We believe ETH matters. The most valuable, programmable store of value. A decade of broad distribution, deep liquidity in onchain markets, and maximally trustless asset on Ethereum. • We believe DeFi matters. Markets, liquidity, credit, exchange, and coordination, open to anyone. • We believe adoption matters. Principles do not change the world until people benefit from them. We sit between two worlds: real usage from the builders at the frontier, and the protocol that has to support it. We work with users, applications, wallets, L2s, infrastructure teams, institutions, ETH holders, core devs and researchers, then turn what they actually need into protocol work, shared standards, infrastructure, and shipped products. Ethlabs is independent but Ethereum is a shared project. We are one node in a much larger network of stewards. This is the multi-node future. We have spent the better part of the past decade contributing to Ethereum core research and development. We are opinionated and transparent. We move with urgency, learn in public, and course-correct when we’re wrong. We are building a lean, talent-dense team for people who want to do the most important work of their careers: [email protected]

The counterfactual isn't that Ethereum captures more fees from blobs it sells to its L2s. The counterfactual is that sovereign domains don't decide to purchase blobs and don't become L2s. L2s can choose to remain sovereign in many important dimensions other than their consensus and privileged interoperability. So Ethereum gets the benefit of differentiated growth engines, with the benefits of deep integration into the ethereum:native economy.

This is Ethereum's exorbitant privilege, as the Internet's supplier of safe assets, for ethereum:native
The US benefits when other economies adopt the dollar. People and businesses need to acquire and hold dollars to participate, creating more buy pressure and reinforcing its role as the global standard. L2s do the same for $ETH. Robinhood Chain alone in 2 months has processed $32B in trading volume against ETH pairs and $35M in transaction fees, paid in ETH. Users need ETH to transact, and liquidity providers hold it to support trading. This is what expanding ETH’s monetary role looks like.

After co-leading Protocol at @ethereumfndn, @barnabemonnot is now co-founder of @ethlabs_org, a non-profit R&D lab focused on growing Ethereum. He’s joining the Devcon 8 stage for “Fast Ethereum,” exploring what comes next for Ethereum’s users, builders & agents. Don't miss it!

Quick Slots is S-tier
Faster slots are such an obvious win for Ethereum There are many reasons to care about faster slots because everything built on Ethereum becomes more efficient. That’s true whether you’re an rollup-centrist or a L1 DeFioor At some point, it comes with tradeoffs but we have a fair amount of slack at the moment

When you read “decoupled consensus”, think faster finality and faster blocks, because these are some of the unlocks! And networking is a critical layer to this, that gives the network its speed limit. Improvements at that layer mean everything gets faster, and we clear headroom for larger post-quantum signatures too. Very cool milestone!
First Decoupled Consensus networking benchmarks were just deployed 🔥🎢 Shoutout to @sukunrt and @_pk910_ for doing all the work! And thanks to @ethPandaOps and @parithosh_j for letting us tag onto their huge 1000 node Glamsterdam testbed

Flashbots team on faster slots, supporting decreases consistent with sustainable geodecentralisation of the validator set! Great thread by @boez95
EIP-8198 introduces infra for variable slot timing, enabling Ethereum to gradually shorten slots as bottlenecks are better understood. We published our take on it, supporting the move toward shorter slots while arguing that geo incentives should remain part of the evaluation 👇

Robinhood Chain has more than 10x the throughput of L1 We need to keep scaling!
wow, people are really willing to pay quite a bit extra to use @RobinhoodCrypto - median fees often spike well above $0.20. That's significantly higher than fees on Ethereum Mainnet.

Strong L1 benefits L2s Strong L2s benefit L1
Ethereum L2 roadmap distracted from L1 scaling for a minute which perhaps was not great but longterm, L2s are insanely bullish because they created a substrate which every major institution in the world can build on while reinforcing the use of ETH (some a little, some a lot) there is no good reason to build your modular chain anywhere else and there are, instead, many reasons not to the current, absurdly low fees to do this (without having to pay to run your own consensus) are a feature, not a bug expect many, many more L2s to come in the next few years
