Bitcoin wasn't burning a month ago, all the toys people created around Bitcoin were burning. Sending Bitcoin client to client still works like a charm... that's all you need on the most basic level for financial freedom.

Saying Bitcoin will be a failure if it's digital gold isn't a very smart statement overall. In fact, it's something a cult member would say to impress cypherpunks. Bitcoin can be many things at once. Bitcoin is a brand. Thinking anything else, is shortsighted in my opinion.
