Never underestimate an act of kindness no matter how small you may think it is. You never know how big it may be for someone else.

John lingered after class today.
He waited till all his peers were gone.
Me: βWhatβs up John?β
John: (voice cracking w/emotion) βThe board message really hit me today. I really needed to hear that.β
Most of the time I have no idea if my messages matter.
Today I know.

Before I share a picture book with a child, I read it to myself several times. I allow the story to grow on me and speak to me. If I love the book, then I share it. If I don't, then I wait to cross paths again at a later time. Don't force it.

Strong principals are the voice and support for their staff. When districts hand down initiatives or mandates that arenβt working they speak up. Theyβre the safety buffer for their school and staff. They have their back. Appreciate them if you have them.

A Gallup poll showed that of ALL professions, TEACHERS were least likely to say their opinion counts & least likely to say that their supervisors create an open & sharing environment. Leaders, don't be afraid to seek input and feedback if you want a committed staff this year.

Gulliver Academy has a new author! I just read Shelly Roy's @miamiedguru picture book "Pick the Very Best." It's a thoughtful text about thinking and choosing good thoughts. I can imagine great conversations with elementary kids. #ReadAloud #storiesmatter

#10-I donβt accept the role of achievement ranker, labeler, & sorter. I live the role of growth supporter.
I reject many of the constructs (grades, testing data) that seek to standardize & dehumanize the classroom learning experience.
Each kid will grow.

#18-Teaching isnβt giving directions about the work. Teaching is giving support to the worker.
Once upon a classroom, I was proud of how βwellβ I set the stage. Today, I am more proud of how hard I work to support the actors.
I am a proud stagehand.
