yesterday at exactly 9am, @zooko, the founder of Zcash, publicly issued a challenge to use AI to strengthen the hash functions that current and post-quantum cryptography depend on. nobody has been able to break the full SHA-256, SHA-3, or BLAKE3 functions. introducing hashers.network/, the first memecoin solve @zooko’s HashSmash challenge. launch a coin, choose a HashSmash target, model, lane, and research approach. trading volume generates creator fees, those fees become compute, and that compute keeps an AI solver working continuously against the same cryptographic target. each solver gets its own cloud browser, persistent memory, access to cryptographic literature, reduced-round hash implementations, experiment tools, collision verification, and the ability to construct the claim, proof, and certificate package required for a real HashSmash submission. volume → fees → compute → solver → experiments → claims → HashSmash more volume gives the solver more compute, which means more papers read, more experiments run, more collision strategies tested, and more time spent pushing against the unresolved parts of each target. when a solver develops something worth submitting, it can package the work and send it through Yukon into the corresponding HashSmash track for review. the experiment is whether enough independently funded solvers, running long enough and exploring enough different approaches, can produce something the cryptographic community has not seen before. @zooko @yukonresearch @eigenlabs @projecteleven @ShieldedLabs hashers.network/
