This is *before* you get to the issue that what web programmers think are "best practices" is a complete trash fire that can be simplified out so that everything is more robust, less computationally expensive, and requires 1/10 as many people (or fewer) to run...

This holiday season Twitter fires 4K workers, Amazon fires 10K workers, & Facebook fires 11K workers—all while US Billionaire pandemic wealth increased an absurd $1.7T.😳 A reminder that billionaires don’t create jobs—they exploit workers. Tax billionaires. Unionize workers.

Replying to @github
@github copilot, with "public code" blocked, emits large chunks of my copyrighted code, with no attribution, no LGPL license. For example, the simple prompt "sparse matrix transpose, cs_" produces my cs_transpose in CSparse. My code on left, github on right. Not OK.

Imagine a world where programs could export PDF without requiring a connection to the internet

RIP Kathleen Booth, who Invented the first assembly language. She was 100 years old, and I have not seen anything in the news about it, unfortunately. With her husband, they formed the smallest computer group in the UK. Respect!

github copilot is incredible. it just sells code other people wrote, but because it's an "AI" it is apparently allowed to launder that code without it being a "derivative work". lol. lmao. what an amazing grift.

and there it is. github takes all our free code, puts it in a blender, uses us for free QA on the result, and finally turns around and charges for it
Looks like GitHub Copilot is going public as a paid product! I have to admit that their "first hit is free" strategy worked perfectly, writing code without it is now somewhat painful and I'll happily pay for it

An important part of the FreeBSD 13.1-RELEASE announcement ( freebsd.org/releases/13.1R/a… ) which a lot of people have overlooked.

Happy 37th birthday to the first Arm processor! 🎉🎉 In 1985, the first @Arm microprocessor displayed 'Hello World, I am ARM'. Did you know this processor is on display? We went to see it in person in Cambridge, and talked a bit about that historical moment.

Comment in the Raspberry Pico SDK second stage boot code: "This enables you to boot from almost anything: you can pretty much solder a potato to your PCB, or a piece of cheese. The trade off is performance" 😂
As I keep saying, our current implementation of "AI"/"ML" is total garbage and needs to entirely be rethought. The design has zero security, and these systems are constantly being used to actively harm real life human beings. We need real liability for these systems!
