i think we're all focusing on the wrong things maybe i've just spent too much time on the internet, but lately i've been paying attention to what my timeline actually looks like drama (clipping account) engagement bait with zero context drama (clipping account) an actual thoughtful post resurfaced clip of someone from 5 years ago pokémon cards 49ers drama (clipping account) someone being toxic for engagement and it makes me wonder is this really what people want to consume? has our attention become so fragmented, our dopamine receptors so fried, that we need increasingly extreme content just to feel something? because this isn't the internet i fell in love with i fell in love with the internet, with social media, with 𝕏 because it was a place where dreams could become reality you could learn almost anything for free you could discover people living lives you never thought were possible, study their journeys, learn from their mistakes, and start building something of your own you could come from absolutely nothing and create an entirely different future for yourself that's what made the internet so magical to me and it's why i started making content in the first place to document my own journey, share what i was learning, and hopefully become one of those people who could inspire someone else to chase something bigger but somewhere along the way, it feels like we've started rewarding the things that add the least value to our lives outrage, controversy, negativity, meaningless arguments all competing for the one resource we can never get back our time so here's a reminder to myself, and maybe to you too be intentional with what you give your attention to don't let an algorithm decide what matters to you don't spend your precious life reacting to people who aren't even part of it create more than you consume document your goals, execute on them, get better at the things you love exercise, spend time with your family and friends, build something you're proud of use the internet to expand your world, not shrink it and most importantly, build a life that feels meaningful to you, not one that just looks impressive to everyone watching the internet is still one of the greatest opportunities we've ever been given just don't forget what you're actually here for
