Koala Oats, leafy & cut some nice silage & the rest will go to harvest, this was a pasture paddock with low Lucerne numbers so after ewes were lambed down in April/May I sowed 50kg/ha Koala after a Paraquat Boxer Gold spray pre sowing
Took a week but I’ve got new Merino Rams eating out of my hand, I usually feed them some Lupins to boost them pre jointing just chucking it over the fence & these are the first lot that came right up for a pat without being a shed/show sheep, these being paddock run before sale
16th September ice on windscreen, possible frost along the Billabong creek at Walbundrie, tomorrows forecast is for a few degree less, not ideal🤞❄️🌾
Bundaleer Merino Rams bought today, bright white well crimpy wool, horned one (which is a PH from poll joining) is a year older & polled are only 10 months old, still very much baby’s with lambs teeth
Finally got around to doing a proper job of calibrating the old Lyco, was reading 10kg light this shearing which isn’t a big issue but a pain
Thoughts on how to Manage volunteer Barley that has made it to milky dough by late July, this is the thin end of this pdk & have another better, thinking I’ll have to mow the heads off it as sheep will have an issue with this much grain at some stage, moving lambs to put ewes on
Crop grows better where you turn the airseeder on… at least I only did it once this yr & it’s the furthest from the road which is good but was also too far from sheds to run seeder down to fill it in
I suppose I should ask, is it going to be ok to change just one rear on my 6140M 3500hrs? Still plenty left on other original but definitely less than the new one
You can provide unlimited quality feed to sheep & they’ll still get their heads stuck in a hinge joint fence trying to eat the neighbours
Illabo wheat sown 7th April sending heads up, odd types at the moment but putting sheep on all paddocks I have in hoping to delay the maturity of the rest, I’ve seen it before in 2016 with Tobruk Triticale & a good frost neatened paddock up
Gly resistant ryegrass showed up in this paddock so changed plan from Oats to Barley so I can sell all off the farm at harvest so no resistant survivors will get trail feed to sheep, graded then sown high screening-low T/W Neo at 65kg/ha, probably should have halved that rate
Sowing 2026 done, last paddock was Koala Oats into an old Lucerne/clover pasture that I’ve just taken lambing ewes out off, was quite tight even with the moisture on top, will be either harvested or cut for hay with paddock going into crop rotation
Where are people getting oil change/service stickers for tractors etc, I used to have a roll but ran out, I asked at super cheap but it wasn’t a thing they stocked?
