This beast of a swarm got too hot simply from the number of bees in it and half of them went to hangout on the porch until they got a bigger box.
These girls are ready to make honey!

Swarm season!!! Bees swarm to reproduce if the are healthy in the spring. It’s a great thing for the bees, but they don’t always pick the best place to move into from our point of view. If you see a swarm, give us or your local beekeeper a call so we can give them a home where th
Bumped into a queen in the bee yard today. She was out testing her wings and landed on my vest for a bit. Got to see her go back into the mating nuc, so cool!
It is only 41f here today and these bees are just flying, but the queens are out too!

Early December and the bees are able to get out. This is my favorite queen from this year’s swarms. Frugal, resilient, productive, gentle, and guards well against robbing. All in all a well adapted bee. I’ll be making lots more queens from this one next year!

Building migratory covers this evening to finishing off winter prep of new colonies.
The migratory cover with a piece of reflectix for an inner cover keeps the top just a bit warmer and prevents condensation above the winter cluster.
