As I mentioned in my talk at GraceHopper last year, my association with the conference is pure unadulterated gaslighting. And after my talk last year @AnitaB_org decided to double down. Shame.

One of the best parts of being a prof is hearing from alumni and what they're up to. Had a favorite prof in college (or even just one whose class meant a lot to you?) reach out to them once in a while and let them know. They want to hear from you :)

If you are straight and cisgendered, over the next few years you may start seeing and hearing LGBTQ people a lot less. It may be very gradual and subtle, and therefore hard for you to notice. So, I'm going to say now, while you can still see and hear me- this was deliberate.

New Taulbee survey dropped (👍 to @ksm_csed for passing it along): cra.org/wp-content/uploads/2… For those that aren't familiar, it has a lot of info about CS faculty in the US - demographics, hiring, salary, enrollment, etc.

A teacher invited me to speak about CS in her 2nd grade classroom in Florida. Then this DeSantis BS emerged and she asked if I would be disclosing that I’m trans. I said yes and she rescinded the invite. This is what erasure looks like. nytimes.com/2022/03/16/opini… – at Seattle, WA

For everyone teaching this term: do you recommend students to go to the Accommodations Office at your uni? If you do, are you aware of what that process looks like? Hint - the process is not good. It is not empowering. It is costly, time consuming, and demoralizing. 1/10

I don't want to start another #AcademicTwitter dumpster fire but if institutions are really serious about diversity, they probably would start by developing strategies not only to hire more diverse candidates, but to RETAIN them and ensure their continued success/

63 studies: women who assert their ideas, make direct requests, and advocate for themselves are liked less. They're also less likely to get hired—and it hasn't improved over time. It's 2021. When will we stop punishing dominant women for violating outdated gender stereotypes?

Renaming buildings is a small step forward. Unfortunately, @Caltech’s process is full of examples of the #invisiblework that minoritized academics disproportionately do. Fair distribution, attribution and compensation of DEI work benefits everyone! See full thread by @sarahsamiam

10/15 How did a committee of 14 academics plus the President of Caltech gloss over such a gross misattribution of work? After all, this is a serious offense in academia.

I have ZERO confidence that there will an "investigation" or any action whatsoever planned by any Google leader. What they're planning on instead is waiting it out and doing nothing since they believe the story will die down.
