Tuesday, September 29- Colorado Task Force 1 (CO-TF1) Update:
Sixteen members of CO-TF1 are safely back in Colorado.
They spent the past several days in Hawaii, staged ahead of Hurricane Nolo- to assist in water search and rescue efforts- and returned early this morning. 1/2
That means being selective about what goes. Those containers in the photos? They’re part of the process of making sure the right equipment gets to the right place- and that the team can quickly find what they need once they arrive. 3/3
Most Task Force deployments involve driving to the destination, which means the team can bring trucks loaded with equipment. Getting to Hawaii is different.
Everything has to fly. 2/3
When you can’t take everything, you have to know exactly what you’ll need. Sixteen members of Colorado Task Force 1 are headed to Hawaii ahead of Tropical Storm Nolo, which is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the Big Island. 1/3
Colorado Task Force 1 is being activated ahead of Tropical Storm Nolo, expected to strengthen into a hurricane and make landfall on Hawaii’s Big Island as early as Friday. Sixteen members of the team will head out this evening, ready to support search & rescue operations.
UPDATE: Colorado Task Force 1 is headed home.
After more than a week in Texas, the team has been demobilized and is making the trip back to Colorado. They were originally deployed following heavy rainfall and the threat of significant flooding in the Texas Hill Country. 1/2
The two task forces are currently being managed as regional assets, meaning they could be deployed anywhere in the region- including another state- if conditions warrant.
We'll continue to share updates as the mission develops. 3/3
