August storms in East-Central Indiana caused flooding and wind damage, with water above corn ears in some areas. Dr. Dan Quinn observed multiple ear rots and premature kernel sprouting (vivipary) in submerged ears.

Introducing Dr. Osler Ortez. His experience spans coffee in Nicaragua, soybeans in Kansas and Argentina, and corn in Nebraska and the U.S. Midwest. His current work focuses on corn and emerging crops.

Fungicide is often considered after hail injury to corn due to the plant health statements present on many fungicide labels coupled with the natural desire to take action following a hailstorm.
An Overview of Hail Injury and Fungicide Use on Corn provides info to evaluate the potential benefits of fungicide application, and make the most profitable management decisions following hail injury in corn in upcoming growing seasons.
