“In conferring with other pastors, I’ve learned my congregation is no anomaly,” writes a pastor who himself has suffered from depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation.

Despite a prior suicide attempt, threats toward his family, & police confiscating his knives the shooter LEGALLY purchased the weapons used on July 4 in #HighlandPark. Those killed were not victims; they were sacrifices offered to America's Baal, the gun.

Esau McCaulley is a wonder. His blend of biblical and liturgical themes is precisely what the church (not to mention the state) needs to hear. As one who has devoted my life to the problem of evil, I've rarely heard it so well laid out in a short space.

My dad is at rest. Thank you Tshezi for all you have been to our family and the world. Lala ngo xolo Desmond Mpilo Tutu.
Liturgy must be ...
COMMUNAL (the community prays as one),
CLEAR (simple to understand),
CONCISE (not ponderous or novel),
CORRECT (reflecting creedal Christianity),
CYCLICAL (repeated often),
but also COMPELLING (beautiful to the ear and the heart).

What struck me the most after listening to the latest episode of #RiseandfallofMarsHill is the near complete lack of female leadership and female voices in the story of Mars Hill.
When we exclude women from leadership, we are harming not just women themselves but the body of Christ as a whole
At a planning meeting this morning for the planning of the National Slavery Museum in Richmond. So exciting to envision what could be. “We cannot heal the deep wounds inflicted during the era of racial terrorism until we tell the truth.” -Bryan Stevenson
I'm on a mission to help "the youths" learn about and recover the ministry and thought leadership of John Stott. He's a vital voice in the face of current fracturing of evangelicalism. Here's an interview I recently gave on a podcast about his legacy.

"John Stott remains an important voice for the evangelical movement to remember and consider, even as we need to continue to broaden the scope of those whose voices are regarded and included in guiding evangelicalism forward."

Brand new from @coreywidmer! "Commemorating the Uncommon Humility of John Stott."
Today would have been John Stott's 100th birthday. One of the greatest blessings of my life was serving as his study assistant from 1999-2003. I wrote a piece for @missioalliance about why I think he is such a vital voice for today. missioalliance.org/commemora…

Studying the spiritual fruit of kindness this week. Because the Greek word for Christ (christos) was so similar to the word for kind (chrestos), many people mistakenly called Jesus' early followers "the kind ones." Now that's something to recover.

Never ever again try to tell me that only policy, not character matters in our political leaders. Ever.
On Epiphany of all days, the day we celebrate the light of King Jesus whose Kingdom of peace subverts all political, nationalist and racist ideologies, we are forcefully faced with the darkness of our own idolatries. Have mercy on us Jesus, and bring us light.
I've been deep in the book of Revelation for a sermon series the last 6 months, and the relevancy of the book for our modern political moment is remarkable. Here's some thoughts about it. thirdrva.org/news-posts/the-…
