So #throwback to my year 13 parents evening where 3 @lodgeparkacad teachers told my parents I was aiming too high in wanting to study medicine. It may have taken me slightly longer but I’ve only gone and bloody done it! Dr Corey will see you now 😭🎉👨🏼‍⚕️@StGeorgesUni

I don’t think people realise just how big this outcome is. These percentages are high enough to win a statutory ballot and it was done in just 3 days. The fallacy that their leaders were detached from their rank and file is dead. Resident doctors are angry and unified. ✊🏼
Strikes will GO AHEAD from 17-22 December, after resident doctors in England voted overwhelmingly to reject the latest offer from @wesstreeting.

Tomorrow’s strike is still entirely avoidable, @wesstreeting should work with us to come up with a credible offer to end this jobs crisis and avert the real terms pay cuts he is pushing in 2026. We're willing to work to find a solution if he is @fletchjack

It’s taken me 15 minutes and 2 attempts so far to access a patients chest x-ray…. I’m a calm person until it comes to NHS computer systems. 🫠

Consultants and SAS doctors in England - look out for your indicative ballot email from @TheBMA today! Wes Streeting called pay restoration "a journey, not an event" - so why have we stopped? Are you prepared to stand up to demand your value is recognised by the government?

Common sense has left the room. We’re pouring taxpayer money into an unproven experiment at higher cost, when we could simply train more doctors, fix bottlenecks, and pay them properly. Patients don’t need a cosplay doctor. They need a qualified one.
1/ Now the embargo has lifted, I’ve had time to read the @lengreview in full. While some celebrate minor cosmetic wins, I see the formal entrenchment of a parallel, underqualified medical workforce — built without medical training.

Doctors currently earn £18.62 an hour, they are asking for £22.67 an hour. Their assistants get paid £24.45 an hour. How can @wesstreeting defend paying doctors less than their assistants?

"The Govt and NHS England both state today that the modest [waiting list] improvements we’ve seen so far are down to staff’s hard work. They now need to demonstrate this with more than words and commit to restoring doctors’ pay and value." Full response: bma.org.uk/bma-media-centre/…

This is disingenuous and misleading. This is the scenario: - You have £100 - I take £40 from you - Now you have £60 - I give you £20 back - You now have £80 Is it really unreasonable for you to demand the remaining £20 back over the next few years?! No, it’s not.
BMA strikes are unnecessary and unreasonable. There isn’t a precedent in British trade union history for calling a strike after a 28.9% pay rise - let alone a five day strike. The NHS is hanging by a thread they’re threatening to pull.

This is pure spin. The truth? With this ‘pay rise’ doctors still have a 20% real terms PAY CUT! “But there’s no money” They can afford to pay 1st yr doctor’s assistants 30% MORE than 1st yr doctors. It is ALL deliberate So yes, I fully support resident doctor strikes
A pay rise of 28.9%. The highest pay rise in the entire public sector this year. A genuine commitment to work together on things like rotations, placements, progression. These are NOT the conditions for strike action. I urge the BMA to work with me.

Imagine someone nicks £40 from your £100. They give you £20 back, then call you greedy for asking for the rest. That’s what doctors are facing. They are being paid 20% less in real terms than they were in 2008. Full pay restoration is not an unreasonable demand.

I graduated as a doctor 4 years ago with ~£100k of debt, and despite working up to 72 hours a week, my debt has only increased. Doctors are being paid £17/hour and have to make loan repayments and pay thousands for exams and fees. We are only asking for £23/hour. @wesstreeting

Wes should stop telling the public what they think and start negotiating with our union. We only need to strike because we trusted his offer last year in good faith. Never again. Union power works and the public should be asking what they could win too.
After a 28.9% pay rise thanks to a Labour government, patients and the public will be dismayed that the BMA is choosing to strike - and so am I. I have written to the BMA today reaffirming our preference to work together to improve their working lives and rebuild our NHS.

It is grotesque, but please don’t frame this as one deserves more than the other… maybe now nurses will finally see that we need to strike like the doctors did and we may actually get somewhere
The RCN has labelled nursing staff's 3.6% pay award for 2025-26 as ‘grotesque’, saying it is wrong to again favour doctors for higher wage rises. What do you think?

New Study Questions the Link Between CQC Maternity Ratings and Clinical Outcomes I am pleased to share important findings from a new study, published in BJOG, that critically examines the association between inspection-informed maternity service ratings by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and clinical outcomes across the English NHS. The research, undertaken through the National Maternity and Perinatal Audit, assessed whether the CQC’s ratings — including ‘Outstanding’, ‘Good’, or ‘Requires Improvement/Inadequate’ — correlated with actual clinical outcomes such as severe maternal or neonatal morbidity, perinatal mortality, or obstetric intervention rates. obgyn.onlinelibrary.wiley.co…

This can get in the sea There is a reason 90% of orthopaedic surgeons are male, the same reason such high numbers of CEOs are; patriarchy; outdated power systems, biases and and and… It’s why many of us are working hard to make the specialty more diverse, more inclusive and thus *better*, for patients and the profession alike. (Let’s not forget the evidence showing more diverse specialities are better places to work, and that patients treated by female surgeons have lower rates of adverse postoperative outcomes including death at 90 days and 1 year after surgery compared with those treated by male surgeons.) toxic stereotypes do nothing but harm.
