Some music I heard at a young age is now substrate to my "listening being." On rare occasions, I'll hear a work that has the same effect, wherein in short order, it's as if I've been hearing it my whole life and it was always meant to be there.

No, Canada - just because we like to copy every stupid fad from America doesnβt mean we have to try populism with PP.
The pet rock was a better idea, and it only cost $4

I just had a pulmonary function test in a tiny, unventilated room with an unmasked technician, with unmasked patients regularly filing through. The technician had a deep, hacking cough. They regularly wiped the doorhandle with sanitizer. We live in the Upsidedown.

America, as a mental health professional, please allow me to let you in on a secret for how you can differentiate a good person/candidate from a bad one:
They have profound love for their spouse and their children. And their spouse/children reciprocate that love for them 100%.

Dear 2024,
I have reviewed your manuscript with interest and regret to advise that I will be declining representation.
While the plot is interesting, it strikes me that there is a little too much of it. I fear that readers will become overwhelmed. 1/
A confession: I'm usually not that into theme and variations. So often, the music sounds like an exercise, rather than something borne of deep inspiration.
Here's an exception: Rita Strohl. Mastery, humour, depth of emotion & the performance is fabulous!

A new report from Donne, Women in Music reveals a disturbing stagnation and regression in the diversity of global orchestral repertoire signalling an urgent need for change in the classical music industry.

Which composers do you watermark your manuscript paper with to force focus?
And if you're thinking "that's not a thing" then you're wrong, all the proper composers watermark their manuscript with composer faces.
A milestone! My database of historical cello works by women has reached 250 composers.
Note: some of the pieces are arrangements (not originally written for cello; this is delineated clearly, including if the arrangement is by the composer).
The cutoff date for the list is 1951.
"...She (Clara) numbered among her best friends such masters as Chopin, Mendelssohn, Hensel, (___?), & Liszt."
It's nice to hear someone from that time period include Hensel in a list of masters - & clearly differentiated from her brother.
De Lara lived from 1872-1961.

It's lovely to hear Adelina De Lara reminisce about her days being Clara Schumann's student.
She references Fanny Hensel at the two minute mark.

A cello arrangement of Udite lagrimosi spirti dβAverno by Lucia Quinciani, C. 1611. It's her sole surviving composition.
Mel Bonis (1858-1937):
βTwo people I know, wanting to get "up-to-date," decided to play a piece by Haydn with four hands, transposing one of the parts by a semitone.Β No one doubted it was written by one of the stars of the day, which earned him some well rounded applause.β
For those who cannot get enough cello music written by historical women composers (and who can?!) here's a playlist. Works are in chronological order by year written; the cutoff is date is 1951.
